Founded in 1886, the Village of Western Springs was named after the underground springs that were located on the south side of town. Since the springs dried up in 1890, the Village water has been drawn from underground aquifers and processed using reverse osmosis system. The Village is also well known by it’s Historical Water Tower Museum. A quiet and affluent suburb a short trip from downtown Chicago, many residents commute into the city via the BSNF train line. Recognized as one of the Safest Cities in Illinois and one of the Best Cities for Young Families and rated 10/10 on GreatSchools.org.

Water
The Village of Western Springs derives its water from its own wells. Each year, the Water Department serves more than 4,400 customers by pumping water from local wells to the reverse osmosis (RO) treatment plant at 614 Hillgrove. The water is softened and purified before it is pumped into the distribution system for consumer use. Schools
Public Elementary—District 101 serves three elementary: Field Park, Forest Hills and Laidlaw schools and one junior high, McClure Junior High School. These schools are within the Village and serve Village residents along with some residents of Hinsdale.
District 106, LaGrange Highlands, is a combined elementary and junior high campus, LaGrange Highlands School, lies immediately adjacent to the community and serves about one quarter of the Village residents.
Public High School—District 204, Lyons Township High School District, has two campuses. South High School is located in the Village and serves the freshman and sophomore classes. North High School serves the juniors and seniors and is located in nearby LaGrange.
Private—St. John of the Cross Roman Catholic elementary school is the only private school located within the community. It serves students from the Village and surrounding communities.
