Between everyone on the Kidlist Team and the wide range of children all of us have, we have looked into every type of kids classes, teams, clinics, and lessons there are. So we decided to put all of our heads together to create a helpful resource for all of our fellow parents, grandparents, and caregivers! Below you will find four sections: Sports Teams and Classes, Fine Arts Classes (including music, art, dance, theater, and more), Brain Power (which we use to describe STEAM, language, tutoring, and etiquette), and Classes for Little Kids 0-5 years old. If you live in the west and southwest suburbs of Chicago, we have you covered!

Breakaway Basketball is the leader in basketball skill development for players in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Gemini has dedicated teachers who work with children from walking to flipping and beyond. They use the Powerful Words Character Development Curriculum during classes and focus on the child first, then the sport.

Classes start September 9
Encourage your child to build self-esteem, confidence and self-control as they learn the basic fundamentals of the Korean art of self-defense. Your child will improve their skills including punches, blocks, kicks, and single combination defensive and offensive moves. Returning students may qualify for the next level belt. Wear sweat pants and a t-shirt. Regular Tae Kwon Do is for children ages 5-17. They also offer an Early Childhood level for ages 3-5.

Train like a ninja and swing like a monkey in Ninja Monkey classes at Gemini Gymnastics Academy! This action-packed class combines the best of gymnastics, martial arts and ninja warrior programs. Gemini’s program is for everyone: the four-year-old boy learning to walk on a beam and the nine-year-old girl learning to flip off the wall are both going to be challenged and excited every day. In every class, kids work on simple puzzles and problem solving amidst their physical activities. By mixing these little brain games into their workouts, kids associate using their whole bodies to work through challenges and develop an ability to truly focus. The programs also celebrates Little Victories and Little Failures, which teaches the kids resiliences and grit.
Soccer Classes and Teams
If you are looking for AYSO, click here to find the region in your area. We also have great soccer programs available in our area all year round! The indoor facilities around here are wonderful. We didn’t buy soccer cleats right away and found it was perfectly fine to let our kids wear gym shoes when they started, but then headed to Dick’s for a pair of cleats once they got into it.
Westmont Yard offers Soccer Skills training classes, and Recreational 5v5 Soccer League this Winter! Soccer training provided by our professional coaching staff. We have developed a unique training curriculum that blends player development with fun. Classes will focus on fundamentals for dribbling, passing, trapping, shooting, and more. Drills and small-sided games will be used to teach these skills. Take what you learn on training days and put it to use in our Recreational 5v5 Soccer League. Games are 43 min in length and played on a 20x30yd field. Awards are given to the top team in each division. Westmont Yard is the best place to play soccer indoors this winter! Volleyball Teams and Clinics
Volleyball is a great team sport for both girls and boys! It’s something that you can easily practice at home too. Passing and setting in the yard is one of our favorite ways to be active and practice skills. We have looked into volleyball options quite a bit and have a great list for you!
Lions Jrs/1st Alliance is one of the most respected and successful volleyball clubs in Chicago. For more than 20 years, their athletes and coaches have excelled at the highest levels of competition, both locally and nationally.
The Lions Jrs. Fall League is a fun, cost effective way for players to learn or enhance volleyball skills. Teams are coached by parent volunteers and the practices are run by experienced Lions staff. The Lions Jrs. Fall League has experienced tremendous growth since its inception in 2008, with over 1,500 players and about 170 teams participating. Locations for our fall league include: Western Springs, McCook, Hinsdale, Darien, Woodridge, Palos Hills, Oak Lawn, Tinley Park, Elmhurst, Villa Park, Lombard, River Forest, and Glen Ellyn.
There are a ton of wrestling clubs and academies where kids can get coaching and practice their moves on the mat. If your kids are interested in joining a wrestling club or trying out the spot, we have the list for you!
Balance, focus, flexibility, relaxation, stress reduction… there are so many benefits from yoga! Yoga classes designed for kids are harder to find, but we have a great list of options near you!

Fall Youth Art Classes are available for all ages and starting the week of September 10th! After school options include Pour A Painting, Acrylic Painting and Drawing for beginners to advanced students. One day workshops are also offered. Cooking Classes and Kid-Friendly Meal Prep
At cooking classes for kids, children learn new skills, build kitchen confidence, and try new foods. And who knows — you may end up with breakfast in bed!
There is such a variety of dance classes! Kids tend to start out in ballet and tap, but then the choices multiply! Many of our kids have taken dance classes through the years and we have looked into all kind of options, including jazz, hip hop, ballet, tap, modern, ballroom, irish dance, and more. There are great dance studios for both girls and boys, all ages, and all abilities!
Jo’s is celebrating 36 years of dance in the community! Your child will have a great time learning during the Oak Brook Park District Fun With Science classes. Designed for kids ages 3-4, they offer three programs that explore different subjects. During September, in “Magical Magnets”, children will explore, experiment, and paint with magnets. October features “Curious Candy”, were they will experiment with different reactions using candy! In “Gooey Goodness”, they’ll measure, mix, and squeeze all kinds of slime for the November exploration. All three classes are independent programs, but sign up for all three to get the full experience.
School doesn’t have to mean frustration. Tutoring services offer a big help, especially when tutors tailor learning to your individual child’s needs and interests. We’ve gathering resources for academic enrichment and support!
In working with the award-winning Butler School District 53, Oak Brook Park District’s ABC Preschool has implemented thecreative curriculum: a play-based curriculum! This fun and age-appropriate program works to enrich individual social, emotional, and intellectual growth so students are well prepared for kindergarten, and beyond. Their staff is focused on important Kindergarten readiness skills and lessons are fresh, engaging, and effective.
Parents that work in Oak Brook may be eligible for resident tuition rates. The 4-year old program has a full day (9-3pm) option that has been very popular. The 3-year old program has 2-day, 3-day, and 5-day half day options.

Goldfish Swim School provides swim instruction to children ages 4 months to 12 years-old in a unique setting with highly trained instructors and small class sizes (max 4:1 student to teacher ratio). The pool water is kept at 90 degrees while the air is 92, so your kids will be comfortable both in and out of the water. The other wonderful aspect of the facility is that it does not reek of chlorine! They have a state-of-the-art water purification system and the chlorine level (while great at keeping the pool clean) is mild. In addition to swim lessons, Goldfish Swim School Burr Ridge also offers weekly Family Swims and birthday party packages.

Gemini developed the Tiny Twistar program for preschoolers and kindergartners based on learnings from child development experts who say that acquiring healthy learning attitudes is far more important than mastery of specific skills. In the Tiny Twistars program, gymnastics skills are used as tools to teach learning attitudes while skill mastery is a secondary goal.

The parent participation class at Goldfish Swim School is called Mini. It starts at 4 months and goes through 35 months old with a limit of six children per class. Their small class size and highly trained instructors make this a great class for your little ones to get comfortable in the water. At Goldfish, the pool water is kept at 90 degrees while the air is 92, so you and your kids will be comfortable both in and out of the water!

These camps, classes, and open roads are not available all the time, but locations, dates, and ages are included in the link below so you can plan ahead. Many sell out when registration opens.
