The western suburbs have a lot of great options for your young dancer. Some programs start with independent classes, while others focus on parent/tot experiences first. Your little one can practice balance, rhythm and movement through a dance class. Indoor Swim Lessons for Little Kids

Goldfish Swim School provides swim instruction to children ages 4 months to 12 years-old in a unique setting with highly trained instructors and small class sizes (max 4:1 student to teacher ratio). The pool water is kept at 90 degrees while the air is 92, so your kids will be comfortable both in and out of the water. The other wonderful aspect of the facility is that it does not reek of chlorine! They have a state-of-the-art water purification system and the chlorine level (while great at keeping the pool clean) is mild. In addition to swim lessons, Goldfish Swim School Burr Ridge also offers weekly Family Swims and birthday party packages.

Max Aquatics in McCook has small group or private classes starting at age 3 and organized according to age. Baby ‘n Me class also available starting at 6 months with a parent or caregiver.

Oak Brook Park District offers daily swim lessons from ages 9 months though 16 years old in the form of group and private lessons.

Bolingbrook Recreation and Aquatic Complex offers Parkie’s Starfish Swim School for lessons to toddlers and up.

Aqua Tots Swim School in Orland Park and Wheaton offers swim lessons for children 4 months old and up.

Wiggleworms from Old Town School of Folk Music can be found in Western Springs and is designed for kids two and under. There are also mixed age classes.

Evolution Music of Orland Park will soon offer toddler rocker classes for those aged 4 – 8 years.

Kindermusik is at The Community House in Hinsdale for newborns and older. It is also in Aurora, Berwyn, Bloomingdale, Forest Park, La Grange, Oak Park and River Forest; you can click here to find out more about those classes.

Tiny Toes Music mixed-age music classes can be found in Hinsdale, Burr Ridge, and Downers Grove for children birth to kindergarten.

The Academy of Music & Art in Westmont has music classes for ages 2 years and up.

Suzuki Early Childhood Music Classes are offered in Western Springs, Oak Park, and Naperville for parents and children birth through three years old.

Music with Lindsey classes in Orland Park, as well as a YouTube channel with free online courses for kids ages 0-4 years.

Musikgarten offers early childhood music classes starting from birth. Age availability vary by location. Find a teacher in Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, La Grange, Lombard, Naperville, Oak Park and Wheaton through their “teacher locator” portion of their website.

Zumbini with Momma Swan in Naperville is for children ages 6 months through 4 years old.

Gemini developed the Tiny Twistar program for preschoolers and kindergartners based on learnings from child development experts who say that acquiring healthy learning attitudes is far more important than mastery of specific skills.   In the Tiny Twistars program, gymnastics skills are used as tools to teach learning attitudes while skill mastery is a secondary goal.

Classes include Gemini Satellites & Me (Walking-3 years with parent/caregiver), Twinklers (Co-ed, Ages 2-3), Sparklers (Co-ed, ages 3-4), Super Stars (Co-ed, 4-5 year old preschoolers & kindergartners), and Tae-Kwon Twistars (Co-ed, 3-6 year old preschoolers & kindergartners), which have schedules during the week and on Saturdays and Sundays.

Soccer Classes for Little Kids

  • Naperville Yard begins their soccer programs at 2 years and up.
  • Soccer Shots introduces children 2 and up to soccer basics. Programming is available through a variety of sites, some of which are coordinated through private childcare facilities.   • Westmont Yard tailors their youngest classes for 18 months and up.

Language Classes for Little Kids

When it comes to learning a new language, children can’t start too early. Whether you want to introduce a second language spoken in your family or give your child a head start on becoming bilingual, check out these classes.

  • The German Language School in Naperville that has classes for children ages 1 year and up.
  • The Language and Music School in Oak Park offers music and movement, language, or a combination of both for children as young as 6 months old and up. Spanish immersion preschool is also available
  • Hinsdale Language Academy offers Spanish and Mandarin classes for Mommy and Me, as well as ages 3 – 6.

Art Classes for Little Kids

Art classes give young minds a chance to explore their creativity, without making a mess at home.

Other Resources

Cantigny offers a rotating schedule of classes for littles, all tailored to specific ages. Subjects range from sing-a-longs to animal meet-and-greets.

Morton Arboretum offers special events, story times, troll hunting, or self-guided discovery activities.

Double J Riding Club has Junior Farmers classes for ages 3-6 years old.

If your child has a lot of energy, look into classes at My Gym. They have age-appropriate music and movement classes starting as young as 6 weeks old all the way up through big kids. Mixed age classes are available. Check out the Aurora, River Forest, and Wheaton sites for the schedule and to register. The first class is even free!

Kids Science Labs in Wheaton has hands-on science classes for ages 3-5.

Blissful Owl in Berwyn offers Baby/Family Ninja classes for walkers, Mini Ninja Fit for 3 years and up, yoga classes and more for little ones.

Don’t forget your park district and local library! Park districts are full of resources for young families, and almost all libraries have free story-times, classes, and kids’ programs for residents.
