Kidlist Family Volunteering Event

You and your family are invited to decorate and fill Birthday Boxes and Sweet Cases for local foster kids with Kidlist through the charity organization Together We Rise! The Kidlist Team volunteered together decorating Sweet Cases last year and had so much fun that we wanted to create a family volunteering opportunity that is doable for all ages, hands on, and impacts local kids.

Join us on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the Grand Avenue Community Center, located at 4211 Grand Avenue in Western Springs! A huge thanks to the Western Springs Recreation Department who has graciously donated Grand Avenue Community Center for this event.

You can choose between two time slots: 2-3pm or 3-4pm. Kidlist will provide all decorating materials and set up. All money collected will go directly to Together We Rise for the Birthday Boxes, Sweet Cases, and items to fill them with. What are Birthday Boxes and Sweet Cases? Keep reading!

Options to Decorate and Donate

Sweet Cases are $25 each and include a teddy bear, coloring book, pack of crayons, hygiene kit, and blanket. You decorate the outside panel and fill the bag with the aforementioned supplies.

Birthday Boxes are $20 each and include 5 balloons, 5 party poppers, birthday card (which you/your child writes/draws in), birthday button, birthday banner, candles, slinky, bubbles, squirt animal, candy, sticky hand, crown decorations, crown, color changing cup. The boxes have words and pictures on them that you can color. Please note that they come flat and you will need to assemble the boxes (instructions will be provided).

If your child is into coloring, we suggest the doing a Birthday Box. If they are more into drawing, Sweet Cases involve free form drawing shapes and pictures on a duffle bag. You are welcome to decorate the boxes and/or bags with your children or reserve one for yourself. The more we decorate and pack, the more foster kids will receive them!

All of the supplies will be provided, including decorating materials and items to go into the bags and boxes, but you need to pay for however many bags or boxes your family would like to donate (details below). After decorating, you will go over to the packing station with your children to fill them.

We will be bringing all of the boxes and bags to a foster agency, most likely in Oak Brook or Naperville depending on needs in February.

How to Reserve Your Spots

Choose a shift (either 2-3pm or 3-4pm on Sunday, February 16, 2020) and reserve your spots by noting how many people (adults +kids) will be attending and how many Birthday Boxes and Sweet Cases you would like to decorate, fill, and donate. Click the button below or scroll down to view the Eventbrite registration.

Please note that we will send you a Venmo request to cover how many boxes and bags you specify. Your volunteer spots are confirmed once payment has been made. If we have not received your payment within 24 hours, your spots will then go to those on the waitlist. We are using Venmo to avoid Eventbrite fees and all money collected will be going to Together We Rise to cover the Birthday Boxes, Sweet Cases, and items to fill them with. Kidlist will be donating the decorating materials and event setup.
