We weren’t planning on having rain dates, but having to cancel two playdates in a row was really bumming us out, so made it work and this one is going to be even better than originally planned!
Join us for the next Kidlist Park Playdate on Thursday, July 22 from 3-4:30pm at Spring Rock Park in Western Springs. Western Springs Park District has made huge improvements to the playground in the last few years with new equipment and now a splash pad that opened just under a month ago! You’re going to love it. You can also look forward to free entertainment, snacks, and a take-home craft at the playdate!
Look for us in the blue Kidlist shirts. We can’t wait to meet you!
Keep reading to see the features of Spring Rock Park that you can enjoy, the park playdate schedule so you know what’s going on at different times, where to park, a spotlight on the Park Playdate Series sponsor, Springdale Eye Care, and the times and dates for each playdate for the rest of the summer so you can mark your calendars.
The park playdate will officially start at 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 22. Some of the Kidlist site sponsors and community partners will join us and Springdale Eye Care to welcome you with swag and activities. A few members of the Kidlist team will be there to take pictures, meet everyone, and pass out snacks and water, so look for the blue Kidlist shirts and say hello!
Stop by the Kidlist welcome table for snacks from GoGo SqueeZ and water, then visit the other tables for giveaways, meet local businesses that partner with Kidlist to make the site possible, make your own instrument with Mattix Music Studio, and pick up a craft kit from Thomas Ford Library (while supplies last). Elsa from Frozen will also be there, provided by Princess Party Chicago!
3:30 – 4:15 pm
Join us for a magic show with animals, hosted by Sparkles Entertainment between the two large pine trees next to the playground.
4:15 – 4:30 pm
Enjoy a Music Together® mini class with Mattix Music Studio in the lawn.
You are of course welcome to come early and stay later. Please note that this is not a drop-off event. We want to bring people together to make friends and have your kids play with parent/caregiver supervision.
Our park playdates will not have rain dates, so in case of inclement weather, individual playdates will be cancelled. If that happens, this article will be updated with “Cancelled” in the title, and we will post updates on Facebook and Instagram as well. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen again, but if it does, there are two more this summer!
There are two parking lots for Spring Rock Park as well as street parking. The lot closest to the playground is called the upper parking lot and is located off Central Avenue between 47th Street and Burlington Avenue (the train tracks). The next closest option is street parking along Central Avenue on either side of the street.
If both of those areas are full, the lower parking lot is another option. From Central Avenue, head west along the tracks and curve around to the left. You’ll see a large parking lot and a path past the tennis courts to the playground area.
There is a permanent building with restrooms on the west side of the playground and portable restrooms along the south side of the upper parking lot.
About Our Park Playdate Series Sponsor, Springdale Eye Care
We partnered with Springdale Eye Care to make these playdates possible because they provide quality care and we love how involved they are in our community!
Springdale Eye Care is a family-owned business in a gorgeous space on the corner of Wolf Road and 55th Street in Western Springs. They offer comprehensive and personalized family eye care with the latest technology and stylish eyewear.
Dr. Tanya Halikias graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1999 with a bachelor of science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She received her doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2007 graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Halikias then went on to complete a post-doctoral residency in primary care and ocular disease at the Illinois Eye Institute. Adding to her vast experience, Dr. Halikias is a rare member of a select group of only approximately 10% of optometrists to complete a residency. She also is a clinical faculty member at the Illinois College of Optometry, training new generations of optometrists to provide better eye care for all.
Spring Rock Park is a Kidlist favorite because of the varied equipment, shaded picnic areas, permanent bathrooms, and splash pad. It also has nice winding paths throughout the park that are great for taking a walk.
Here’s what you have to look forward to when spending the afternoon with us at Spring Rock Park!
Two ziplines with seats!
A brand new splash pad with various spraying features is in the center of the playground. Please note that the splash pad is currently running 1-4pm because of water restrictions in Western Springs. We are hoping they can extend the time until the end of the playdate and will update the times here if that happens.
The treehouse deck was built last year and will be full of fun games during the playdate, compliments of Western Springs Park District.
The magic show will start at 3:30pm between these two massive, picturesque pine trees!
There is also a sand area with one digger next to the playground.
