Kidlist Park Playdate Series brought to you by Springdale Eye Care

Outdoor Activities

We are bursting to tell you about something that we have had planned for over a year. Our first ever Park Playdate Series! Join us at some of our favorite parks over the summer to enjoy free entertainment, snacks, music, take-home crafts, and connecting with other families in the community.

Who made this all possible? Springdale Eye Care in Western Springs! They are our headline sponsor and we’re excited to partner with them to bring you loads of fun!

Springdale Eye Care is a family-owned business in a gorgeous space on the corner of Wolf Road and 55th Street in Western Springs. They offer comprehensive and personalized family eye care with the latest technology and stylish eyewear.

Dr. Tanya Halikias graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor in 1999 with a bachelor of science degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. She received her doctorate at the Illinois College of Optometry in 2007 graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Halikias then went on to complete a post-doctoral residency in primary care and ocular disease at the Illinois Eye Institute. Adding to her vast experience, Dr. Halikias is a rare member of a select group of only approximately 10% of optometrists to complete a residency. She also is a clinical faculty member at the Illinois College of Optometry, training new generations of optometrists to provide better eye care for all.

If you don’t follow Springdale Eye Care on Instagram, you definitely should. I seriously want every pair of sunglasses they post. Such an amazingly good selection!

We also partnered with some amazing local businesses and kid-friendly organizations to bring you great entertainment. So check out the overview below and mark your calendars!

At this point we don’t know if there will be capacity limits on outdoor gatherings at the end of June, as we will be following IDPH guidelines. For now, pencil these dates and times in because it’s going to be a blast!

Please note that these are not a drop-off events. We want to bring people together to make friends and have your kids play with parent/caregiver supervision.

Saturday, June 26, 2021 | 10:00 – 11:30 am at Ty Warner Park in Westmont (RAINED OUT)

Ty Warner Park is a phenomenal park with many different areas. There are two playgrounds: one with sand and equipment for smaller children, and one with a larger slide and climbing structures. There is also a zip line and popular splash pad (with an admission fee) to enjoy. We also like walking the paths around the park that go past the many sports fields, concession stand, bathrooms, and gardens.

A huge thank you to Westmont Park District for offering their park for the first playdate!

  • Interactive kid-friendly game show hosted by Sparkles Entertainment from 10:30 – 11:15 am
  • Try a Music Together® mini class with Mattix Music Studio and make your own instrument at their table
  • Meet Elsa from Frozen, compliments of Princess Party Chicago
  • Stop by the Westmont Library table for a take-home craft
  • Enjoy a snack from GoGo SqueeZ

Sunday, July 11, 2021 | 3:00 – 4:30 pm at Spring Rock Park in Western Springs (RAINED OUT – working on rescheduling)

Spring Rock Park has gone through major renovations in the last few years! All of the playground equipment was replaced in 2018 to include a climbing web, two zip lines, and layered climbing structure, along with many slides and play equipment. Last year they added a treehouse deck and guess what… they are building a SPLASH PAD this spring! It will be completed before our park playdate, so you can enjoy that for free as well. You can also walk the paths and use the indoor restrooms.

We love working with the Western Springs Park District and are thrilled to be able to host a park playdate at this huge, amazing park.

  • Magic show with animals from Sparkles Entertainment from 3:30 – 4:15 pm
  • Try a Music Together® mini class with Mattix Music Studio and make your own instrument at their table
  • Enjoy a snack from GoGo SqueeZ
  • Take home a craft activity bag from Thomas Ford Memorial Library (while supplies last)

Sunday, August 8, 2021 | 3:00 – 4:30 pm at Katherine Legge Memorial Park in Hinsdale

Katherine Legge Memorial Park, affectionately known as KLM, has a large, fenced-in playground with structures for different age groups as well as a nature-based play area outside the fence and sheltered picnic area. There are wonderful open spaces with meandering paths that are great for a walk. You will also find indoor restrooms close to the playgrounds.

A huge thank you to Hinsdale Parks & Recreation for the use of their playgrounds and picnic shelter for this playdate!

  • Meet the characters from Trolls while they dance to the beat of some tunes from a Sparkles Entertainment DJ
  • Try a Music Together® mini class with Mattix Music Studio and make-your-own instrument at their table
  • Enjoy a snack from GoGo SqueeZ
  • Hinsdale Public Library will be there with a craft

Saturday, August 28, 2021 | 10 – 11:30 am at Memorial Park in La Grange Park

Memorial Park has a variety of playground equipment for all ages and a small splash pad that you can enjoy for free. We’re big fans of the trough with water flowing down. So fun! There is also a nice covered picnic area with bathrooms that we appreciate. This year is extra exciting for the park because a lot of new things are going in this summer! Re-finished tennis courts, 3 new pickleball courts, a National Fitness Court, and the playground games are being added, including a mini-race track, tetherball, gaga ball, and a little fun fitness walk.

Community Park District of La Grange Park has generously offered to let us host a playdate at their flagship park and we’re excited about it!

  • Watch a juggling show from 10:30 – 11:15 am and get a balloon creation from a Sparkles Entertainment balloon artist
  • Try a Music Together® mini class with Mattix Music Studio and make-your-own instrument at their table
  • Meet Moana, compliments of Princess Party Chicago
  • Enjoy a snack from GoGo SqueeZ
