We are all looking at things a bit different lately. There is talk of a meat shortage and the supply chain is strained with everyone cooking more and buying larger quantities to stock up. While some families have been buying directly from farms for years, it makes sense that more are considering it. We thought it would be helpful to put together a list of where to buy meat, produce, and eggs from local farms. Please note that many of these farms provide a variety of products, including eggs, vegetables, and fruit, so check out all of their offerings!
Local CSAs and Farms that Fill Custom Orders
CSAs (community-supported agriculture) means that you buy a farm share for the entire season. Each week you receive a box of produce that the farm is harvesting. During periods of peak harvest, youβll receive a larger quantity of food. It also means that if a crop doesnβt do well one year, you wonβt receive that fruit or vegetable. Itβs a great way to support local farms, share the risk that they incur while receiving extremely fresh food. Farm to table!
You can also order from farms directly! Many of these farms offer custom ordering with drop off locations in the Chicago suburbs. We listed the towns in the Kidlist area where you can pick up the food you ordered from each farm and you can click on the farm name for more information, product lists, order forms, and additional pick up locations.
Abbey Farms

This “non-profit family fun farm” owned by the Monks of Marmion Abbey usually hosts festivals and events for local families. Now, you’ll still find CSA boxes, donuts for Saturday pickup, family meals from Pine Tree Inn, and more.

Pickup for this CSA is available Wednesday or Saturday so you can pick up your food for the week. The contents of your box changes depending on what is in season, but can include greens, broccoli, carrots, sweet corn, squash, sweet potatoes, yellow watermelons, heirloom tomatoes and more. Hasselmannβs offers custom orders for 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, Berkshire pork, lamb, poultry, eggs for delivery. They also have a drop-off location in River Grove.
Seven Sons Farms

Seven Sons has 100% grass-fed beef, pasture-raised pork, and poultry, as well as pasture-raised eggs. They never give any of their animals antibiotics, other drugs, or GMOs and all animals on their farm are raised on grass-fed diets. Order deadlines are five days prior to the delivery date and you can order online after setting up an account on their website. Seven Sons has pick up locations in Brookfield, Carol Stream, Naperville, Wheaton, Geneva, Oswego and more.
Jakeβs Country Meats

Jakeβs is a family farm with pasture-raised pork, 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef, antibiotic-free poultry antibiotics fed a non-GMO diet, and wild-caught Great Lakes fish. They are at many local farmers markets, however you can purchase from them directly. We recommend you join their email list to receive updates on when and where they are planning drop-offs. You can order from them in advance then pick it up at that time, usually about once a month. Past drop off locations have included Downers Grove, La Grange, and Elmhurst.

Finnβs offers both a CSA and custom orders. They have 100% pasture raised beef that is growth hormone free, antibiotic free and steroid free, pork, free range poultry, lamb, goat, and cheese. You can place orders on Monday by noon for Wednesday delivery. Home delivery is available and they also have pickup locations in Riverside, Oak Park, and Western Springs.

Mayneland Farm

This family-run farm has been selling fruits and veggies since 1976. It’s pretty incredible to run across a working farm in the middle of Naperville! Check their Facebook page for updated days/hours, what’s in season, and more. They’re currently running their farmstand several days a week with modifications for safety.
