You know when your toddler keeps asking to see pictures of them at the play place, it must be a result of having SO much fun, which we did on our first trip to Marshmallow Play, the new indoor play place located in Elmhurst.
Marshmallow provides a safe and fun environment for children ages 6 months through 6 years to play, have fun, make new friends and explore several different engaging play areas. We can’t wait to go back.
Marshmallow Play invited us to check out their new playspace, which just opened on June 17, 2023, but all opinions are my own.
The owner, Nadia was very kind and welcoming. She was inspired to open a play space of her own after working as a nanny of young children for many years and was always looking for new places to take them.
Nadia hand-selected all of the toys and interactive play activities herself and often rotates items to keep it interesting and ensure the toys stay in tip-top shape. You can tell how passionate she is about providing a space where everyone feels comfortable, including those with special needs and different dietary needs.
Features of Marshmallow Play in Elmhurst
Marshmallow has so many cute toys to explore. For older kids, there is a large wooden climbing structure which includes two ladders, a rock climbing wall and slide down the middle. There are also multiple choices for small ride-along cars, inflatable bouncy animals, and the most popular with my son, a ride-on unicorn.
One of our favorite parts was how many opportunities there are for imaginative play including staples like a play grocery store and ice cream shop, as well as a more unique areas like the princess castle, flower shop, horse stable, pizza restaurant and more!
There are themed toys for every interest including a dinosaur “small world play” area, a large train table, and superhero and princess dress-up stations. All of these toys encourage children to use their imagination to explore ideas related to different concepts and everyday life. We had so much fun trying each one and even mixing and matching them, like bringing the baby dolls to the ice cream shop.
For the littlest ones, there is a designated baby and toddler area. This enclosed space featured some fun toys to engage with, a foam climbing mat, bar to pull up on and more. This area may be for babies but my 3-year-old enjoyed exploring in there as well.
Food at Marshmallow Play
Marshmallow Play offers a nice selection food and drink available for purchase but they also welcome you to bring your own (peanut-free) snacks and enjoy them at the sitting area. It’s really nice that the space is contained enough so parents can sit at a table and enjoy a coffee and still have eyes on the kids.
Restrooms
We found the bathrooms to be spotless and they have a changing table with disposable bags to use for diapers, which is so helpful when you’re in a pinch.
Special Needs Accommodations
The bathrooms are wheelchair accessible and everything is on the same floor. Marshmallow Play is planning on hosting sensory-friendly play times, but hasn’t established them yet. The entire facility is nut-free.
Hours and Pricing
You can find the current schedule with hours listed here. Their weekend hours may vary due to private parties and events so please check their Instagram for updates.
Pricing as of July 2023 is $15 for the first child, $12 for the second, with each additional child being $8. Two adults are free with a paying child and each extra adult is $10. Children under 6 months old are free and punch cards are available.
Please note that socks are mandatory for children and adults.
Recommended Ages
We recommend Marshmallow Play for kids 6 months old through 6 years old. I thought it was absolutely perfect for my 3-year-old and while my 6-year-old son did not join us on this visit, I did think he would also enjoy playing with most of the toys as well.
Best Days/Times To Go
My son and I visited on a Wednesday morning, and there were only 3 other kids there with us. Because the space just recently opened, there is still plenty of time to check it out. Leave us a comment below to tell us about your experience if you stop in!
Tips for Your Trip
The play place is located in the same shopping center as Brewpoint Coffee, a local cafe offering signature lattes, freshly roasted coffee and pastries. Perfect for grabbing a latte on your way to play.
Also, don’t forget your socks! Marshmallow Play doesn’t allow shoes in the play area, which helps to keep things so clean.
