I had the pleasure of meeting Sanam, co-owner of the newest indoor play space and cafรฉ, this past week to give you a sneak peek of the newest space for little ones and adults. She and Shalvi, a fellow local mom, are opening The Playpen Glen Ellyn!
While the kids enjoy the indoor playground, imaginative play areas, and ride-on toys, you can sit and enjoy their custom blend of coffee from Tugboat (a local roaster), as well as Benjamin tea and snacks sold at the counter.
Features of The Playpen Glen Ellyn
The Playpen Glen Ellyn play area is a shoe-free zone, so make sure you wear or bring socks. There are benches with cubbies near the entrance for your convenience.
You’ll find a climbing dome, play equipment with slides, and pretend play including a kitchen, coffee shop, and cart to serve pretend food, in front of the leather couches.
On the right, you’ll see a train table, which is sure to be popular. There are ride-on toys against the wall, a table for playing with locking blocks, and a baby and toddler area on the other side of the gate.
The separate section for babies and toddlers has age-appropriate equipment and seating for adults.
Food
No outside food or beverages are allowed, but that’s not a problem, because there is a counter when you walk in with locally roasted coffee, lattes, and tea, in addition to snacks that appeal to kids, including milk, juice, That’s It bars, organic pouches, and string cheese. It’s really important to Sanam and Shalvi that they only serve food and beverages that they would consider giving to their kids, so the quality is top-notch.
You can take your snacks and drinks to any of the cafe tables situated next to the play area so your kids will always be in view.
Bathrooms
There is a private restroom to the left right when you walk in, by the cafรฉ.
Hours and Location
The Playpen Glen Ellyn is located at 501 Duane Street in Glen Ellyn, IL. Please note that the entrance faces west (away from Main Street); you’ll see their awning on the side of the building as you approach. There is a private parking lot in front of the entrance that you cannot park in, however there is a public parking garage directly behind their building and you can also find street parking on Duane Street.
It is open for play Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 9am-5pm (closed Tuesday), Saturday and Sunday 8:30am-1pm.
Prices
Admission to the play area is $16 for the first child and $14 per additional sibling.

Recommended Ages
The Playpen Glen Ellyn is recommended for ages 0-6 years old. While older siblings are welcome, the equipment most likely won’t appeal to them as much.
