Indoor Places to Go

My kids love anything that they can scoot, push, ride, pedal, jump on, or drive โ€” so when I heard that Radio Flyer opened their flagship retail store at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg at the end of 2023, I knew we had to visit. Radio Flyer’s fist-ever retail store’s features include a toddler play space, Race Track where kids can ride a rented Go-Kart or Tesla Model S for Kids, and room to test out Radio Flyer gear like scooters and balance bikes.

Finding places to take my kids where they can get out energy and try new things is always a goal of mine. Our visit to the Radio Flyer Store was a blast!

Features of the Radio Flyer Store

When you first walk into the store, you’re greeted by a giant mural of a Radio Flyer wagon with 3D wheels that are big enough to sit in. To the left is a showroom with merchandise that includes wagons, ride-ons, apparel, and gift options. Beyond that is a toddler zone and an open space for testing products. To the right of the entrance is a Flyer eBike showroom.

The most unique feature of the store is the Race Track, which is directly through the store’s entrance. There, kids ages 3-12 can ride a Go-Kart and a Tesla Model S for Kids for $6/person. My oldest kids (ages 6 and 4) were able to use the Race Track at the same time and were smiling and laughing throughout the 10-minute experience. Before they started, friendly staff members gave the kids helmets and quick lesson about how to use the racers.

Please note that there may be a wait to use the Race Track, depending on how crowded the store is; you can make a reservation ahead of time, or you can join the wait list and complete a waiver using a QR code while you are there. Once you sign up, you’ll receive text alerts to let you know when it is your child’s turn. You can also view your place in line, in case you want to leave the store and go somewhere else in the mall while you wait.

In addition to the Race Track, the store also has other areas that are geared towards kids. For toddlers, there is a dedicated space with ride-ons, push toys, and other toddler-friendly fun (like a trampoline, rocking horse, and slide). The merchandise is for sale and has price tags on it, but you do not need to pay to play there.

Additionally, there is a large open space for people to test out scooters, balance bikes, bumper cars, tricycles, and arm-powered ride-ons. There are plenty of staff members to answer questions about the products.

The Flyer Bike Shop showcases Radio Flyer’s lineup of eBikes and accessories. There is an option to test ride their bikes; you can make a reservation online ahead of time, too.

While I didn’t personally check out this part of the store, there is also a Service Center.

Food

There is no food sold within the Radio Flyer store, but there are many options of places to eat within Woodfield Mall. In addition to a food court and family-friendly restaurants like Red Robin, Cheesecake Factory, and Shake Shack, there are also stand-alone food kiosks, such as Auntie Anne’s and Molly’s Cupcakes (a personal favorite for my kids).

Bathrooms

There are clean, bright bathrooms within the store (near the toddler area). There are changing tables in both the men’s and women’s bathrooms that have a sanitizing light to disinfect after each use.

Hours

The Radio Flyer Store is open Monday-Thursday from 10:00am – 8:00pm, Friday and Saturday from 10:00am – 9:00pm, and Sunday from 11:00am – 6:00pm.

The Race Track is open Monday-Thursday from 10:30am – 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday from 10:30am – 8:30pm, and Sunday from 12:30 – 5:30pm.

Check their website for holiday hours and schedule changes.

Prices

It is free to explore the store and have your kids try out the toys! All the merchandise is for sale.

If you’d like to check out the Race Track, it is $6/child (plus tax) for a 10-minute racing experience. Prices are updated as of January 15, 2024 and subject to change.

Recommended Ages

For the Race Track, kids must be between 3-12 years old; however, the store is fun for all ages. My 1.5 year old was able to try out the smaller ride-ons. As a parent, I loved checking out the different wagons, larger bikes, and in-store exclusive merchandise (like gift wagons and custom go-karts).

Best Days/Times To Go

The store is most crowded on weekends; the least crowded times are Monday – Thursday from 10:00am – 1:00pm. There are no specific sensory-friendly hours, but going close to store opening on Monday – Thursday is generally the quietest time.

Accessibility

The Radio Flyer Store is located inside Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. I recommend parking near Nordstrom and entering on the first level. The store is all on one level, so it is stroller and wheelchair accessible. The volume inside the store varies depending on how crowded it is, but it is a very spacious place. There is a hallway that leads to the bathrooms if your child needs a couple minutes of quiet.
