We first met the owner of Goldfish Swim School in Burr Ridge when they opened in 2014. Steve’s enthusiasm and passion for teaching kids how to swim was (and continues to be) the driving force behind this location. So when he invited us back to the pool, we were excited to check it out again. And actually, my sister happened to be in the midst of searching for swim lessons for her three year old son, so she came along too so he could experience it first hand.
Come on a tour with us and learn about everything Goldfish Swim School Burr Ridge has to offer! We’re going to show you the flow of how the classes work, as well as some of the other things they offer, such as family swim and upcoming events.

Arriving at Goldfish Swim School Burr Ridge
When you walk into Goldfish, their friendly staff is at the desk to greet you. You simply check in by giving them your name, then head to the changing rooms to get ready for class. You have the option of bringing your swimmers all ready to go, or you are welcome to help them change in private rooms with benches inside.
You’ll also note that there are hair dryers in the center that you are welcome to use after using the showers in the pool area, which you’ll see later. The entire facility has a tropical theme, which my nephew was super into. He loved the palm tree in the lobby!
There are plenty of hooks and cubbies on the other side of the changing room area to put coats, shoes, and other belongings while your kids are in class.
Everyone waits in the waiting area and then a couple minutes before class starts, the swimmers line up in front of the dry door until class starts. The process seems like a well-oiled machine, which adds to the calm nature of the experience.
Swim Lessons at Goldfish Swim School
The kids then head to their assigned lane, which is based on the level they are placed in. The student to teacher ratio is no more than 4:1, which gives each child individual attention. My nephew, who has been apprehensive about going in the water lately, went in several times and his teacher did a great job making him feel comfortable.
The water is kept at 91 degrees while the air is even warmer, so your kids will be comfortable both in and out of the water. No shivering at the edge of the pool! The other wonderful aspect of the facility is that you aren’t hit with the smell of chlorine. They have a state-of-the-art water purification system and the chlorine level (while great at keeping the pool clean) is mild, which we really appreciate.
Also, families with kids of different ages and skill levels can conveniently have all of their swimmers in the pool during the same time slot. While we were there, we saw baby and parent classes all the way up to older kids learning swim strokes.
It’s also worth noting that if some of your kids are not taking lessons and are waiting with you instead, there is a chalkboard, books, toys, and a fish tank with fish and turtles to keep them occupied. There is also free WiFi while you wait.
Swim lessons are 30 minutes long and parents are invited to come in the pool area the last five minutes of class to get a progress report. Then you are welcome to take your kids to the showers to rinse off, or take a full shower, before heading home.
What if you miss a lesson? Goldfish has a flexible makeup policy; if you miss a class, you can go to their website and schedule another one. Or if you prefer to attend Family Swim instead, a lesson make-up token on your account can be used for that too.
