Meineke Park in Schuamburg has it all! The hottest new addition is the ninja park, an American Ninja Warrior-style “Challenge Course” with 40-yard dash. Mieneke Park also offers basketball courts, tennis courts, and a big playground. This park is a great way to get out of the house and has something to offer everyone in your family, especially competitive teenagers.
My younger kids love the ninja obstacle course and the timed 40-yard dash. They love racing my husband and I, and boy is it a workout! This park is a must for an adventure-loving family trying to stay fit together. It also makes a great day trip paired with the the Chicago Athenaeum International Sculpture Park, which is just a few minutes away; check out my tips for visiting the sculpture park.
Meineke Park in Schaumburg
Meineke Park is located behind the Schaumburg Park District building, just past the lap pool. (You can also park near the playground.) All of the activities are close to the parking lots, so we didn’t even bring a stroller. We did go through lots of water running all those sprints, climbing the obstacles, and playing at the playground.
There are no outdoor restrooms at the park, but if it is during hours the park district is open, you can use those facilities. Definitely wear exercise clothes, bring sunscreen, and plenty of water!
Ninja Warrior Course
Meineke’s ninja warrior-style obstacle course was a blast. The course includes climbing walls, sway steps, running, rope weaving, army crawling, and more. The course even has a timer to see if you can beat your best course time!
My kids are younger and loved trying all the obstacles and just finding new ways to weave through the ropes and try to climb higher. My one year old enjoyed running around, my three year old thought he was doing it all, but the course was designed with ages 6-15 in mind (the sign advises ages 13+) to execute all the obstacles.
Meineke Park also offers a 40-yard dash for two runners. This was so cool! The kids loved racing each other and, of course, Mommy. We kept trying to beat all of our best run times. My husband even requested to come back with another family and they had a “Dad Race.”
Playground
After the exhaustion set in from the Ninja Warrior Course, we walked over to the playground. There are three sets of playground equipment. One for younger children, and one for middle aged children, and a set of swings. The younger set of equipment was great for ages 1-5 with small slides, a few stairs, and short climbing structures. The middle set of equipment would be great for ages 5-10. It included monkey bars, slides, higher climbing walls, a balance beam, and a few obstacles the required stronger arm strength. The swing set offered regular swings and the parent/child baby swings.
Courts
There were two tennis courts that were open play while we visited. They park district does offer tennis camps and lessons that use the courts, but the public can use the courts when there are no classes in session.
Meineke Park offers two open basketball courts for public use. They each only have one net, so it isn’t a full court, but still a fun place to shoot some hoops.
