Kid-Friendly Virtual Theater Options in Chicagoland: Fall-Winter 2020-21

The joy of a live theater experience with the family may be temporarily on hold due to the pandemic, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other wonderful ways to enjoy the stage at home! Some Chicagoland area theater groups have gotten creative in these times, offering virtual theater experiences that are perfect for kids.

Children and families will enjoy this fresh online content via the CCTv YouTube channel in the form of a bright, fun virtual puppet show based on an award-winning picture book. It’s a sweet, simple tale of a family of field mice who work together through summer and fall preparing for the long, cold winter ahead. Frederick doesn’t seem to be pulling his weight, leading the other mice to view him as lazy, but it is he who shares a special surprise that helps them all survive until spring returns!

A fun, new 10-minute virtual experience offering a toy theater show directed by Brian Selznick, who wrote/illustrated “The Invention of Hugo Cabaret” and “The Houdini Box,” and illustrated the 20th anniversary “Harry Potter” box set. Based on the 1994 children’s picture book, an adorable story about a doll who throws herself a party with her friends knife, fork, spoon and plate.
