New Playground! Oak Brook Park District Sandlot

The new playground at Central Park in Oak Brook is open! The official grand opening of this universal playground, called the Oak Brook Park District Sandlot, is September 5 at 2:30pm, but you can start playing now. The playground has an overall baseball theme and spans two levels.

There is something for every age and ability. The entire playground has a pour and play surface, so no mulch to contend with.

I appreciated the shaded seating area, perfect for when your little ones need to take a break.

One of the little girls that was at the park when I was taking photographs was overjoyed to see what she called “spinning chairs” (I think it is called a revolution spinner? Although spinning chairs is a more descriptive name.)  I could see why she was so excited. This park is awesome.

The spinning chairs are front and center in this photograph, next to the music area.

The music area is fun and colorful.

Even the highest points are accessible through double wide ramping. The extra-wide ramping is designed to allow two people to pass simultaneously, regardless of whether or not they use a mobility device, so play does not have to be interrupted. This also means that a grandparent or parent with limited mobility will be able to reach a child at any location on playground.

Exciting New Playgrounds in the Western Suburbs

The swing and zip line area is nice and spacious!

There is even a special seat attached to one of the zip lines so everyone can enjoy the equipment.

By the way, you know those big red balls in front of Target? My kids always love climbing and sitting on those and there are several in front of this playground shaped like baseballs!

The Oak Brook Park District Sandlot was meticulously designed so everyone, regardless of age, ability, or critical illness, would have the opportunity to play together. There is also a new paver parking lot right next to the playground, which makes it really easy to stop by and enjoy the park.
