Churches with a Live Nativity for Christmas 2020

Talking about the reason we celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus brings meaning to the season. It can be easy to get swept up in the buying of gifts and the “I want’s of Christmas. Taking a moment to visit a nativity scene brings clarity and meaning to Christmas, bringing the miracle of Christmas to life. Some churches even have live animals as a part of their reenactment! This holiday season, take some time with your family to reflect on the meaning of Christmas at these churches with a live nativity.

Churches with a Live Nativity for 2020 in the Chicago Suburbs

Nearly all of these events are free and open to the community.

Strollin’ to the Stable at Grace Pointe (Naperville)
December 5, 2020 | Time slots between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm
Outdoor events, plus an indoor laser light show, help celebrate the season. You’ll need a mask for the indoor portion, and optionally for outside festivities, which include a live nativity, carriage rides, and a petting zoo. Registration is required.

Pilgrimage to the Manger at The Center (Palos Park)
December 5, 2020 | 5:30 pm, 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm, and 7:00 pm
The night starts outside the Lodge follows Mary and Joseph on their pilgrimage to the manger. Then, it’s across the bridge to the farm, where the shepherds with their sheep and the Magi on horseback will join the pilgrimage. Free-will donations are appreciated. Reservations are required. Please call 708-361-3650 to register. Registration opens November 23.

New Ninja Warrior Challenge Course at Walker Park and Playground Renovation

Live Nativity at Chapelstreet Church Mill Creek Campus (Geneva)
Canceled due to COVID
Enjoy a 30-minute journey to Bethlehem for the whole family. This free event will be mostly outdoors and will feature live animals. Masks must be worn for the brief period of time spent indoors. Registration is required and can be found here.

Live Nativity Drive Thru at Compass Church (Naperville)
December 18- 19, 2020 | Friday 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Saturday 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm
This drive-through style nativity features six scenes with recorded narration, effects, live actors, and animals. This event is free takes between 15-30 minutes to experience; no registration required.

All Saints Lutheran Church (Palatine) 
December 19, 2020 | 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm, and 6:00 pm
This live nativity will bring the Christmas story to life. It is a drive-in movie style nativity with 50 spots per time, and you’ll stay in your car for the duration. Reservations needed! Click here to reserve your spot.

Drive-In and Live Stream Live Nativity (Aurora)
December 19, 2020 | 6:00 pm
This year, the spirit of Christmas will be alive at Faith for their outdoor Live Nativity. The journey will take you back in time to the birth of Jesus. Please note that this nativity has changed to a drive-in and live stream event.

Live Nativity at First Congregational Church (Western Springs)
December 24, 2020 | 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Nativity with live animals. You will be directed to walk past the nativity starting at the corner of Woodland and Chestnut.

Live Nativity and Christmas Eve Service at Downers Grove Community Church (Downers Grove)
December 24, 2020 | 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Live Nativity outdoors with social distancing. The Christmas Story will be shared and there will be candle light caroling.
