There are two exciting announcements from Oak Brook Park District… The Family Aquatic Center Swim Pack giveaway, and the Universal Playground being built right now!
Oak Brook Family Aquatic Center Giveaway
We spent our Saturday playing disc golf at Central Park and cooling off at the Oak Brook Family Aquatic Center, and thought you would have fun there too! Oak Brook Park District has generously given us TWO Family Open Swim Packs to give away this week. Each pack is 10 admissions to the Family Aquatic Center… a $120 value! Admission may be redeemed all at once or in multiple visits and the certificate is good for a year.
In addition to the water slide, there is a spray area near the zero depth entry, whirlpool (water vortex), basketball hoop, rock climbing wall attached to the pool ledge, hot tub, and lanes to swim laps. There are noodles, balls, and rings available to use in the pool, so you pretty much just need to bring towels!
Splash Island is right outside with a large splash pad and toddler areas with shade and spray animals. There are also tables with chairs both inside and outside for parties and picnics that you can enjoy in the summer months.
You also might want to head over to our Kidlist Instagram account, follow us, and enter the other giveaway going on there (hint: free passes for you to redeem at their Family Recreation Center, Aquatic Center, Fitness Center, walking track, or open gym!).
Please note that the Family Aquatic Center will be closed August 20 through September 7, 2018 for annual maintenance.
Oak Brook Universal Playground
Oak Brook Park District is on track to to open a new $1 million Universal Playground in Central Park this September! The Oak Brook Park District Sandlot, which is funded in part by private donations, was meticulously designed so everyone, regardless of age, ability, or critical illness, would have the opportunity to play together. The facility is located in Central Park, 1300 Forest Gate Road, and its adjacent parking lot is also undergoing renovations to meet the highest standards of accessibility.
The fully fenced-in playground will be open to the public from dawn to dusk. If you have children that tend to wander, this is your opportunity to relax and make connections with other parents without having to worry.
The park structure will span two levels, and even the highest points will be accessible through double wide ramping. The extra-wide ramping is designed to allow two people to pass simultaneously, regardless of whether or not they use a mobility device, so play does not have to be interrupted. This also means that a grandparent or parent with limited mobility will be able to reach a child at any location on playground.
There will be pour and play surfacing installed throughout the park to ensure ease of access to all the play structures, including the dual track ride, musical instruments, roller slide, dish swing, and revolution spinner.
The Oak Brook Park District Sandlot-A Universal Playground grand opening event will take place on Wednesday, September 5, and will feature a ribbon cutting, refreshments, and a playground party. Maggiano’s Oak Brook, Costco, and The Safe + Fair Food Company will be onsite supporting the event. For more information, please visit www.UniversalPlayground.org.
