We love walking around Central Park in Oak Brook, which is where the Oak Brook Park District Family Recreation Center is. There are three playgrounds along the paths where you can stop to play as well as a disc golf course to enjoy. What a great area to do a walking playground tour!
The longest loop is 1.29 miles and takes you around the entire property, going near three different playgrounds. There are also separate individual loops for Central Park West (see the pink trail below) and the Tennis Center (the orange trail), both of which have playgrounds adjacent to the buildings, so you can tailor your walk based on how much time you have or how much your kids are up for.
We marked stars on the Oak Brook Park District map for each stop on our playground tour!
It’s a great way to get some exercise, enjoy the peaceful trails lined by trees, and have your kids get some play time in. Something for everyone! To park by Central Park West, enter the Park District property off Jorie Boulevard, keep driving all the way through. You will find the several parking lots along the way- the Central Park West lot is at the very end. There are signs to guide you as well.
The surface of the playground at Central Park West is astroturf that bounces back when you walk on it. There’s a pond with fish and a little waterfall too!
The newest playground, The Sandlot Universal Playground, is next to the Tennis Center. Click here to read more about this playground that opened in August, 2018.
One of the playgrounds behind the Family Recreation Center is shaped like a boat and has a rubbery surface and the other, larger playground has equipment for all different age groups with a mulch surface.
The disc golf course is between Central Park West and the Recreation Center.
You can end your walking playground tour at Splash Island, which has many different types of sprays, slides, water buckets, and fountains. Click here for more information about the Aquatic Center, along with admission rates.
You can pick up a map at the Recreation Center building, or click on the image below and the map will open in a new tab so you can print it at home.
