Great Fenced-In Parks and Tot Lots for Toddlers

When my kids were toddlers, my number one all-time-favorite park and playground feature was a fence. Honestly, I would have shown up to a patch of grass with my kids if it had a bench and a fence! Thankfully, there are tons of fun playgrounds for little kids in our area that are enclosed to add a little extra peace of mind, especially for those parents keeping an eye on multiple little ones.

Fully Fenced Parks

Butterfield Park, Lombard

Near the main facility for the Butterfield Park District, as well as the new playground and recreation spaces at The Glen, this playground has a ramp leading up to the park that is wheelchair accessible. Heads up that the playground is sometimes in use by the preschool.

This park is completely geared towards toddlers with a ride-on dolphin and seahorse, seesaw, multiple small slides, tunnels, and a board to touch and manipulate. If your kiddos tend to gravitate towards equipment they’re not quite ready for, this is a great choice to let them roam more freely.

Katherine Legge Memorial Park, Hinsdale

This fenced-in playground is on the grounds of the sprawling Katherine Legge Memorial Park, which also has a nature-based play area, picnic shelters, sports fields, and more.

Water Tower Park, Brookfield

This fenced-in playground by the Brookfield water tower has a train play house, low-to-the-ground play structure for littles, ride-on toys, swings, and plenty of shade from trees. Kids will be able to see the trains passing through Brookfield at the nearby train crossing, too.

Hope D. Wall School Playground, Aurora

This rocket-themed inclusive playground has many opportunities for kids of all abilities and all ages to play. Please note that it is open to the public outside of school hours and on weekends. Toohey Park Tot Playground

This little playground has a mud-free play surface and was designed specifically for kids ages 2 to 5, as well as a sand area with diggers. There’s also a small Safety Town at this location.

Central Park – Park District Playground, Oak Brook

This park is next to the Oak Brook Park District main building and one of the playgrounds there is fenced off from the road. There is equipment for all ages, including toddlers.

Darien Community Park, Darien

Although the address for Darien Community Park is listed as Clarendon Hills Road, the parking lot for the toddler-friendly fenced-in playground is off Plainfield Road right across the street from Indian Prairie Library. It makes a great combo trip! There’s a lot of opportunities for imaginary play with a lemonade stand, the fire truck pictured above, castle, play house, and island and boat-themed playground equipment. Main Street Recreation Center Playground, Glen Ellyn

Located by the Main Street Recreation Center, this fenced-off playground also has picnic tables and a grassy field nearby. If the center is open, you can stop in to use the bathroom, too.
