Lava Island is officially open on Friday in Kildeer, and it’s one of the largest indoor play spaces we’ve been to in Chicagoland.
At over 30,000 square feet, this tropical-themed indoor play oasis is designed for high-energy, screen-free fun. It’s built for both kids and adults to enjoy!

What Makes Lava Island Different
Lava Island is focused entirely on movement and imaginative play.
The equipment was intentionally designed so adults can join in. With over six feet of clearance in most areas, parents aren’t limited to the sidelines. You can climb, slide, and explore alongside your kids.

What You’ll Find Inside
At the heart of this indoor play oasis is a massive three-level jungle gym filled with tunnels, rope climbs, slides, and various paths.
Other features include:
- The famous Volcano Slide (it’s fast, fun, and you have a great view from the top!)
- Additional towering slides for bigger kids
- Smaller slides for younger ones

The toddler zone is thoughtfully separated, giving little ones their own space to explore comfortably.
A detail we appreciated: there are no blind corners in the main play structure, and there are chairs throughout the space. There are also plenty of tables and chairs near the cafe, making it easy to enjoy a snack or meal together.
Immersive Island Theme
Lava Island fully embraces its tropical concept.
Every mural throughout the park is custom and hand-painted. Jungle animals, island scenery, and vibrant colors cover the walls from floor to ceiling. It’s worth slowing down for a moment and looking up. There are details everywhere.
The café area even features a straw hut-style roof and island-inspired touches that carry the theme throughout the entire space.
It’s not just play equipment; it feels like an experience.

The in-house café allows families to stay for hours without needing to leave for food.

Pricing
Lava Island offers both One-Hour Passes and All-Day Passes, and either option provides full access to the entire park. There is no additional per-attraction cost.
Kids (1 year & older):
- One-Hour Pass: $18/person
- All-Day Pass: $24/person
- Adults: Half the kids’ price
- 11 months old and under are free
It’s easy to stay more than an hour, so the all-day pass may offer better value.
They also offer a loyalty program where you can earn points to receive a free all-day pass.

We’ve been to a lot of indoor play spaces across Chicagoland, and Lava Island stands out for its size, immersive design, and the fact that it truly invites the whole family to participate.
