Summer isn’t complete without a trip to the beach! Glencoe Beach is located on the beautiful north shore of Lake Michigan in Glencoe, IL and is a very family-friendly beach to visit for the day. My family and I have spent a day on Glencoe Beach for the past few summers. Here are some tips on making the day fun for all.
Day Trip to Glencoe Beach
Glencoe Beach Location and Parking
Glencoe Beach
55 Hazel Drive
Glencoe, IL 60022
Glencoe is about 30 miles north of the western suburbs and free parking is available. We usually try to time it so that we arrive around 10:00 am, and there is always ample free parking along Park Avenue. Once you’ve parked, simply head towards the beach. You can walk down theΒ paved road or take theΒ free shuttle service, available on a large golf cart. Β This can be very helpful if you are carrying beach chairs and gear. The shuttle seems to run on an as-needed basis, so it is usuallyΒ available for your convenience.
Admission and Rentals
Daily Admission (non-resident) is $10 for children ages 2β14 years old and $14 for adults. There are also many rentals available including the following (all prices are for non-residents):
- Sailboat Rental: $40/hour
- Hobie Catamaran Rental: $50/hour
- Kayak Rental: $30/hour
- Paddleboard Rental: $30/hour
- Chair:Β $4/day
- Umbrella:Β $3/day
- Chair & Umbrella:Β $6/day
We have rented a kayak with a small group and rotated the children with an adult. The water was calm and beautiful for kayaking. Life jackets are available with the kayak.
There is also a spray playground located right on the beach. This is a lot of fun and gives kids something else to do besides play at the beach. Restrooms and changing rooms are located near the playground.Β New this year is a lakeside cafe with dining options. We always pack a lunch and cooler for a picnic on the beach. Also be sure to pack a beach blanket, sunscreen, water, and some beach toys.
