Springbrook Nature Center is a small, quiet spot in the heart of Itasca. We went on a nice summer day and enjoyed exploring all that this beautiful place had to offer, including the trails, aquariums, bird sanctuaries, and nature center.

Springbrook Nature Center has three trails, all of which are less than a mile, which makes it nice for the little ones. The nature center itself is positioned right at the beginning of all of the paths, which is the perfect location for starting your adventure.
Inside Springbrook Nature Center
The nature center itself is small but is home to a large indoor aquarium with turtles and fish. You can also obtain maps and more information about the history of Springbrook Nature Center inside.
The Birds of Prey Display
Outside of the nature center, you’ll find multiple large bird sanctuaries that are home to hawks, owls, and many more birds of prey. The nature center takes in injured birds where they are then rehabilitated and released.
Making a Day of It
Downtown Itasca, including the Park District water park, are accessible when walking along the Marsh and Woodland Trials of the nature center. We walked both of these paths and ended up walking past the water park. On a hot day, it would be a good idea to pack some swimsuits and head over to the pool after running around the trails!
Programs at Springbrook Nature Center
Springbrook Nature Center offers classes throughout the year on a variety of topics. Programs are available for individuals, families, school groups, clubs, etc. They are designed to teach awareness and appreciation for the environment. Food and Water
There is no food available at the center. You can bring your own food to eat under the pavilion, which had picnic benches, or sit around the fire ring. Water fountains are located inside of the nature center.

Best Time to Visit/Hours of Center
I would recommend going to Springbrook Nature Center on a nice day. There is not much to discover inside of the nature center which would not be worth the time on a rainy or cold day. I also would pack or use bug repellent. There are a few marshes and with that brings lots of mosquitos!
Building hours (updated as of 6/23/18; check website or call to confirm):
- Memorial Day through Labor Day: Monday-Friday 2-7pm and Saturday/Sunday 12:30-5pm
- April-May & September-October: Tuesday & Thursday 4-7pm and Saturday/Sunday 11am-5pm
- November-March: Closed Monday-Friday and Open Saturday/Sunday 11am-5pm
- The grounds are open all year long sunrise to sunset.
