Lionel electric trains deliver food at 2Toots Train Whistle Grill, with special character cars to add extra excitement as they move around the tracks. Unfortunately, many train restaurants are closing, but 2Toots has locations in Naperville, Glen Ellyn, and Bartlett.
Our family was invited for a dinner out (our first since March!) by the 2Toots location in Naperville, and we all loved it. With extra safety precautions taken, and the excitement of delicious food being delivered by train, we had a great experience. Even my nearly 7-year old was pointing and cheering at the sight of the next trains coming down the tracks.

What to Expect at 2Toots Train Whistle Grill
2Toots grills up classic favorites like burgers and sandwiches, but they take it a step further with 100% grass-fed beef for the burgers, hot dogs, and chili. Old-fashioned crinkle cut fries, hand-dipped milkshakes, and homemade desserts round out the menu. We had a wide variety of food choices for our family, and everyone devoured their meals.
While not a gluten-free facility, they do have gluten-free options for their buns, cookies, burgers, and hot dogs, and they also serve organic milk. I loved that my daughter’s gluten-free cookie came pre-packaged to avoid cross-contamination.
They are happy to make accommodations for those with special dietary needs. If your child has allergies, you are welcome to bring their own food and if it’s train-appropriate and safe to do so, they will even send it out with everyone else’s meal so they can join in on the fun for no extra charge!
Please note that 2Toots is not a nut-free facility as they serve peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and have walnuts in the brownies. Click here to view their full menu.
Bright red counter stools and booths along with Boomerang Formica countertops take you back to a 1950s dime store or soda fountain. The walls are covered with framed pictures of trains and large display cases are full of old vintage electric trains.
Two Lionel electric trains to deliver meals to every seat. My kids were completely enthralled by the non-stop action of trains running around the track.
As a special treat on Tuesdays from 11:00am – 3:00pm, the restaurant is currently giving kids a free mini Thomas & Friends figurine. And don’t forget to bring some quarters for the coin-operated ride-on horse at the front of the restaurant.
Social Distancing Safety Precautions
2Toots is taking extra precautions to keep their customers safe. At all three locations, you’ll find clear dividers between each of the booths, which means children can still see all of the trains moving throughout the restaurant. All food that is delivered on the trains is completely covered as it moves past tables.
In addition to the clear dividers and covered food, staff is also continuing to sanitize everything while paying extra attention to high touch surfaces. There are social distance markers are on the floors in the entryway and outside.
2Toots Birthday Club
Sign up for the 2Toots Birthday Club (for kids 12 and under) either in store or online and they will send your child a Birthday card for a kids meal and a “Trainwhistle” cupcake, all delivered by train and accompanied by a special Happy Birthday song. We love receiving ours in the mail!
If you already belong to the birthday club and your child had a birthday in March, April, May, June or July, just show the email to your server and they will treat them to their special birthday meal, too.
