75 Best Places to Go Sledding in the West and Northwest Suburbs

It’s no surprise that with colder Chicago weather comes the snow, so why not have a little fun in it? Sledding is a great way to burn off some of the kids’ built up energy on a chilly winter afternoon. Bundle up, grab your sleds, and head to the nearest sledding hill. This hill is great for multiple age groups. The hill is pretty long with bales of hay at the end for extra safety. There is a small gravel parking area under the bridge at the base of the hill. There is also a small parking area located near the overpass that features a walking path to get up the side safely.

This park has two areas that are good for sledding, a gradual hill good for first time sledders right next to the parking lot (pictured above) and a short, steeper hill between an equipment building and the soccer fields, south of the parking lot.

This local favorite is fast and fun with plenty of sidewalk area at the “foot” of the hill for parents to observe. On busy days, this is probably a better hill for kids above age 8 as it tends to ice over quickly and ramp/jump building is unmonitored.

A popular sledding spot with a steep hill and stairs on the side to make the trip up more manageable. The hill has lighting and is open for sledding when there is 6 or more inches of snow. They recommend you call ahead.

Johnson’s Mound Forest Preserve

Locals describe this hill as “awesome,” and “worth the extra few minute drive.” Sounds like a must-see!

Oswegoland Park District
Oswego has a surprisingly large offering when it comes to sledding. We would love to hear from anyone who visits!

Tubing Hills

Villa Olivia (Bartlett)
Tickets are sold online and are time stamped for two hours. Due to its popularity, snow tubing may have a wait or it can possibly sell out for the day. Check age and height requirements here, or call (630) 289-1000 before you head out to see if there will be a wait (as the wait time can change very quickly!).

Blackwell Forest Preserve (Warrenville)
North side of Butterfield Road, 0.25 mile west of Winfield Road in Warrenville
