Noon Lions Club Free Vision Screening
December 21, 9:30 am - 11:30 am
FreeAurora Noon Lions Club provides free vision screening for children. Primarily aimed at 6 months to 6 years old although useful up to age 16.
According to the American Public Health Association, about 10% of preschoolers have eye or vision problems.
The screener is meant for early detection of the following eye disorders but not as a tool for diagnosis: Β· Hyperopia (farsightedness) Β· Myopia (nearsightedness) Β· Astigmatism (blurred vision) Β· Anisometropia (unequal refractive power) Β· Anisocoria (unequal pupil size) Β· Strabismus (eye misalignment) Β· Media opacities (e.g. cataracts or corneal scars) Β· Amblyopia (lazy eye).
This pre-screening is not a substitute for the required vision screening for Illinois state public schools. Parents are simply given a PASS or REFER reading after their childβs screening. PASS means that the childβs vision is within the normal range. REFER means that they should be seen by an eye doctor. Parental permission is required.
There is no physical contact with the child and no eye-drops needed. Β· Results are produced in seconds. Β· Children are screened from approximately three feet away.
