Curious Kids

Curious Kids is a series designed to give young learners an opportunity to explore a new topic each month at the Elk Grove Historical Museum. It includes educational instruction, and themed exploration all at the Elk Grove Historical Museum campus.

Past monthly themes have included: Cow Appreciation Day; where visitors learn cow facts and complete a cow-themed craft and Photography; where little explorers have the chance to take pictures throughout the museum grounds. Advanced registration is required, but fees are low for kids ($3 resident/$5 non resident) and adults are free.

Exploring the Elk Grove Historical Museum

My kids and I were recently able to visit the grounds of the Elk Grove History Museum, and check out the different buildings and gardens. There are a few different places to check out while you visit, each one different than the next.

Be sure to check their hours before heading out as they are subject to change.

Our first stop was the Orientation Building. This is where you can meet a member of the Historical Museum’s team and ask any questions you may have. This building also holds the area history, including artifacts and essays.

There is also a bell to ring on the orientation building that my kids loved.

The tour of the Farmhouse was a favorite of our visit. The kids loved seeing the inside of the historical Farmhouse, learning about the different historical elements of the house, seeing the historical piano, living room furniture and even peeking inside the bedrooms.

Please note that we needed to ask to open the Farmhouse when we were inside the Orientation Building. One of the Historical Museum team members then gave us a tour.

The last part of the Historical Museum grounds that we toured were the gardens, barn and outbuildings. My kids noted the gardens and chicken coop (there were no chickens inside when we visited) looked very similar to our current garden and the coops they see!

To keep up to date on the happenings of the Elk Grove Historical Museum, follow them on Facebook, or give the office a call. Double check hours to make sure they are correct before heading out, and be sure to tag us on Instagram when you visit!
