Newly open in Schaumburg, Cube Challenges is home to a variety of tasks that ask groups to work together, test your problem-solving skills, most importantly, have fun while doing it! Perfect for friends, families, or team-building, these quick puzzles are a great balance of physical and mental challenges.
We were invited to check out this new experience! Read below to find out more about what to know about your visit and what you’ll find at Cube Challenges once you’re there.

Features of Cube Challenges
Located on the second floor of Altitude Trampoline Park in Schaumburg, Cube Challenges is home to 20 rooms filled with various mini puzzles and obstacles. If you’re not sure which room to pick first, the rooms are all scored based on three criteria: physical, brain, and skill. Feats of strength, mind-bending tasks, or races to the finish, it had it all. We loved the balance between active challenges, and those that were more puzzle-based.

When checking in, guests are given a wrist band and asked to create their own team name. After a brief instructional video, families are welcome to explore any room they’d like. There’s no designated order, and you can try each challenge as many times as you’d like.
Once you’ve decided which room you’d like to do, all participants on your team must scan their wristband at a screen at the door. The screen identifies the task for that room, and also asks you to select the level of difficulty you want to try. We did easy for most, but gave medium a try on a few of the rooms, too. As you’re working, you’ll see a timer and scoreboard in the rooms, so you can keep an eye on your progress before the time runs out.

Note: some rooms immediately start the timer when you walk in, while others will give you an additional set of directions before you begin. Be prepared to get to work right away once you scan your wristbands. Our family did a 60-minute play session, and truthfully, could have stayed longer. We did every room at least once, and went back to a handful to try again. Their website has a description of each of the rooms, so you can seek out some of your must-dos ahead of time.
There’s a main scoreboard in the hallway that ranks groups according to their overall score, but our team didn’t really pay much attention to it. This would be great if you a larger group that you split into smaller teams. The rankings don’t impact your play, but are there if you’re interested.

We’d recommend wearing comfortable clothes and gym shoes, as you move around quite a bit during your time within the rooms. There is space to put your personal items so you don’t have to take it all around with you.
An added bonus of visiting Cube Challenges is that its within Altitude Trampoline Park. All jump time and admission fees are handled separately from Cube Challenges. If you find yourself with the time, it’s a great way to extend your outing. We would have loved time jumping too, as it had different features than our local trampoline park, but we visited on a school night and ran out of time.
Food
Food and drinks are not allowed in the game rooms. There is a snack bar downstairs near the entrance, where pizza, chips, drinks, etc. are sold. Cube Challenges is right across Meacham Road from Woodfield Mall, so there’s definitely not a shortage of restaurants nearby.
Bathrooms
The restrooms at Cube Challenges are on the main level, near the entrance.

Recommended Ages
The Cubes Challenges’ website recommends that guests be 10 years and older, and I’d agree. While my 7-year old could hold his own on most of the activities, there were a handful he wasn’t able to physically reach, or the task requirements went over his head. Having a 12 and 10-year old with us made it more manageable and enjoyable for him. My 10 and 12-year old had a blast trying out various activities, and I even found myself giggling quite a bit, too. Finding ways to engage and play with tweens/teens can be a challenge at times, and I feel like this is a great spot for that. Each room is a cooperative experience, which took the competitive edge off between siblings.

Best Days/Times To Go
While you’re welcome to drop-in and reserve a play session at any time, we recommend booking online in advance to ensure availability at the time you want. There will be multiple groups playing at the same time, but with 20 rooms to pick from, you won’t wait long, if at all.
Accessibility
The sounds effects and music were louder in some of the rooms. If you or your child are sensitive to this, we’d recommend bringing noise-canceling headphones to help you better enjoy the experience. All of the rules were written on the walls or screens, so it wouldn’t impact your ability to play. The rooms are narrow, making it difficult to navigate with a wheelchair.
