My family had the opportunity to catch a Chicago Dogs game on a Family Sunday, and it was a home run for all ages. Impact Field was easy to get to, clean, and full of family activities! Check out my review below before you head to the ballpark for some tips to enjoy your day with the Chicago Dogs.
Chicago Dogs Baseball Features Family Sundays
Pre-Game Activities at Impact Field
On Chicago Dogs Family Sundays, the stadium opens about an hour before game time. Plan to arrive early to take advantage of special pre-game festivities, including autographs and photos with most of the team lineup — a cool perk for adoring young baseball fans.
Kids Zone
The Kids Zone is open before and during the game with free batting, pitching, and running games for kids. The lines were short, so the kids were able to try each one. The kid zone games were free of charge and the kids even got a small prize with one of the games. On the day of our game, there was also a face painter for a small fee.
Half an hour would have been plenty of time for us to make all the stops, but our slower pace gave us some extra time to get a few snacks and hit the restrooms before the main event.
The Chicago Dogs Game
Throughout the game, there was plenty of on and off-the-field action to keep the kids entertained in between plays. Mine especially enjoyed watching other kids participate in all aspects of the game. The highlights were two older boys wearing giant inflatable baseballs battling it out on-field between innings, and kids of all ages doing their best “Floss Dance” on the big screen.
They were also totally amused by the antics of Squeeze, the Chicago Dogs’ lovable mustard-bottle mascot. His companion, Ketchup, was always being reminded there is no ketchup on a true Chicago Dog.
In a smaller stadium like this one, younger kids can really follow the baseball action and keep up with the crowd’s cheers. Each player had a song come up for the crowd to cheer to for each at bat. Kids were all dancing and cheering even before the player would hit. The Chicago Dogs really cater to all ages coming to the games!
Post-Game Family Fun
There’s post-game fun for families, too! On Saturdays, there are post-game fireworks sponsored by Wintrust. On Fridays, kids are able to run the bases after the game and the first 1,500 fans get a free giveaway item.
Game-Day Concessions
The lines at concessions were short or non-existent, which is a major bonus when you’ve got a bunch of hungry kids in tow. Concessions available include typical baseball fare: hot dogs (of course!), pizza, burgers, nachos, popcorn and more. Entree prices range from $3.50 for a kids’ hot dog to $9 for a cheeseburger and fries. Snacks start at $3.00 for popcorn or peanuts, and desserts range from $4.50–$6.50.
On Family Sundays, ballpark guests enjoy $3 Bottomless Popcorn and $3 Bottomless Fountain Drinks . . . which is a welcome treat on a sweltering hot summer day!
First Aid and Restrooms
Impact Field had a first aid office in the stadium that was stocked with extra water, bandaids, and ice. They are available throughout the game if fans get injured or dehydrated. It is located near the first women’s restroom area, closest to the main gate.
Impact Field was shiny, new, clean and well taken care of. As silly as it sounds, the restrooms are not without mentioning. I appreciated that Impact Field had family restrooms with changing tables. The family restrooms give the opportunity for dads and moms to help with diaper changes and toddler potty trips.
Squeeze’s Scholars
While at the field, we learned about a free reading program offered to schools, presented by the Chicago Dogs. All students grades Pre-K – 8th Grade are welcome to participate. Your school and/or teacher can enroll their students online into the reading program. Upon completing your reading goal, set by your teacher, students receive a free Chicago Dogs hat and a FREE ticket to any Chicago Dogs home game. Check it out here or send the information to your child’s teacher!
Chicago Dogs Tickets
Kids under 2 receive free admission. Bleacher seats are just $9; Outfield Reserve seats are $12; and Infield Reserve seats are $16. ADA/Wheelchair Accessible Seating is also available. Single-game tickets, season tickets, eight-game packages and group tickets can be purchased online or by phone at (847) 260-2544.
Parking at Impact Field
Parking in the garage adjacent to Impact Field is just $3 per vehicle. If needed, additional parking is available in the nearby Rosemont Entertainment District.
Special Accommodations
According to the Chicago Dogs website, there is handicap accessible seating at the top of sections 104, 106, 107, 110, and 113 along the main concourse.
