We are sad to announce that Fun Zone has permanently closed as of September, 2020.
Fun Zone in Downers Grove is more than an indoor play area… it’s a 22,335 square foot family entertainment center for all ages! In the room where you enter, you will find an indoor playground with various sections for different ages, classic arcade games, bumper cars, and a café (coming soon: an XD theater and virtual reality). There are more arcade games in the next room with a redemption area where you can exchange tickets for a vast array of prizes. Down the hall and through a large seating area is a two story laser tag arena.
We scoped out Fun Zone before it opened and have the breakdown of all the fun you’re going to have, along with height requirements, prices, and photographs of each area. This post is sponsored by Fun Zone, but all opinions and photographs are our own.
Fun Zone Play Area: Indoor Fun Playland
This indoor play area is perfect for children up to 10 years old. Everyone entering is required to remove their shoes and wear socks, which is a great way to keep it clean and safe. There is a toddler area for children under 4 years old with smaller slides and climbing structures, which is situated near the seating area so you can easily keep your eye on them.
The indoor playground structure next to the toddler area has a live feed with wide angle cameras, broadcasted on a tv in the comfortable seating area next to the café so you can monitor your kids. The area is equipped with Wi-Fi and multiple power outlets as well. You are welcome to climb through the play area with your kids at no charge, however the play area is designed for those under 54 inches tall.
Spin Zone Bumper Cars
Spin and glide in bumper cars! The controls of the cars are easy to use and nimble as you maneuver using two hand levers. Anyone over 48 inches tall can ride by themselves and those who are under 48 inches can ride on a buddy seat, situated in front of the adult driver. Both types of seats have seatbelts.
Fun Zone Arcade Games
There is a vast array of arcade games at Fun Zone. They have everything from skee ball, basketball, claw games, and racing to new games, such as Jurassic Park and The Walking Dead. There are definitely plenty of games to play and tons of variety!
Virtual Reality Pods
Near the arcade area is a bank of three VR pods. Sit in one of these seats for a unique and cutting edge experience!
Laser Tag
Fun Zone has two floors of laser tag fun with a castle theme and ramps going up and down. There are great walls to hide behind and plan your strategy! Up to 28 people can play at one time. You first enter a room with video instructions to ensure a safe and fun game for everyone, then suit up with one of their 28 laser tag vests! There is a tv outside the laser tag area so spectators can cheer on their favorite team and participants can check out their scores.
Anyone 48 inches tall and above can wear their own vest and play laser tag on their own. Children under 48 inches may go with their parent wearing the vest (parents do not have to pay when accompanying their child).
Where to Sit and Relax at Fun Zone
There is a large eating area called the Sandy Bar and Café with tables and chairs in a nicely lit space located near the bumper cars and indoor play area. Right next to the café is an area with comfortable chairs facing the indoor play area where you can watch your little ones jump, climb, and explore.
If you are looking for more space to sit and relax in between playing and eating, check out the area between the arcade and laser tag with long picnic tables to accommodate gatherings.
Fun Zone Birthday Parties
There are three birthday party rooms to accommodate your guests and four packages to choose from. All packages include ups to 15 children, party supplies, dedicated party host for the duration of your party, online invitations and online thank you cards, two slices of a one-topping pizza and ice cream for each child, a t-shirt and two ice cream coupons for the birthday girl or boy to use for future visits. Children are welcome to stay and play all day after the party.
Grand Opening
Fun Zone’s Grand Opening is January 20, 2018 from 10:00 am to midnight! Special character guests will be there, including:
- Peppa Pig: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Spiderman: 1:00 – 2:00 pm
- Mickey Mouse: 5:00 – 6:00 pm
- Ninja Warriors: 7:00 – 8:00 pm
They will also be giving out free balloons to kids. Don’t forget to post a picture to your social media accounts with the hashtag #FunZoneChicago to receive a $5 game card!
XD Theatre
Coming in February 2018
This theater within Fun Zone will be showing various movies from different genres that will virtually transport you into the movie and experience all of the senses including air, snow, water, earth quake, vibration, fall or movement.
Virtual Reality Hologate
Coming in April 2018
Put on virtual reality glasses and travel through different experiences.
