Orchestra 101 with the DuPage Symphony Orchestra
April 30, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeStrings, woodwinds, brasses, and percussion, oh my! Learn about the fascinating and diverse instruments of the symphony orchestra with music historian Amber Broderick in a fun and accessible info session. This presentation will include an Instrument Show & Tell and demonstrations by DSO musicians. Patrons will learn how to identify the instruments by sound and sight, snippets of their fascinating evolution, and the unique role of each instrument in an ensemble setting. Patrons will learn orchestra basics like the instrument families, conductor/musician relationship, and concert etiquette (including the ever-popular question, “When do I clap?”). You’ll be able to follow the conductor and musicians like a trained pro! No musical experience necessary; orchestra first-timers are welcome, as are youth listeners.
