Cantata Centennial Festival
Cantata Centennial Festival is ready to pack its campus from 2 until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, so families and adults can enjoy a free series of performances and a variety of fun experiences. The festivities culminate with a performance by Maggie Speaks starting at 7:30 p.m.
Parking also is free because Brookfield Zoo Chicago donated its north lot, just east of Cantata’s campus. Festival-goers must enter Cantata’s 10-acre campus from the lot. The entrance to the Brookfield Zoo parking lot is on Golfview Avenue just north of 31st Street.
From 2 until 6 p.m., children and their families can bounce in inflatables, ask balloon artists to create something just for them, be mystified by a magician, ask for a new look compliments of face painters and take a break with the LCC K9 Comfort Dogs.
At 2:30 p.m. the music begins with Leonardo’s Music for Kids. Main stage entertainment continues with Just for Fun at 4 p.m. and GRL Power at 5:30 p.m.
Also close to 2:30 p.m., Cycle Brookfield’s “slow ride” bikers arrive at the Cantata Centennial Festival after leaving Brookfield Village Hall at 2 p.m. to traverse a 4.27-mile route. Riders of all levels are welcomed, and Cycle Brookfield will provide bike valet service at Cantata.
From 3 until 9 p.m., food trucks including GP Italiano, Little Wolf, Mi Taquito, Beach Avenue BBQ, Rainbow Cone and Daisy’s Treats & Bakery serve their specialties. Beverage stations sell beer, wine, soft drinks and water.
During the afternoon, Cantata will announce the six winners of its coloring competition and at 7 p.m. the winners of its 50/50 raffle, which benefits the not-for-profit senior living community.
