Annual Pumpkin Smash Composting Event
Don’t trash it, smash it! Each year, the Village partners with SCARCE to provide a fun way to divert pumpkins from landfills, by providing locations for residents to drop off Jack-o-lanterns to be composted. * The annual Pumpkin Smash will be on Saturday, November 8, from 9 am – noon, at St. John of the Cross School parking lot 5005 Wolf Rd. Pumpkins must be contaminant-free. This means NO candles, yarn, stickers, googly eyes, tape, non-biodegradable materials, plastic or metal of any kind. Acrylic paint is acceptable, but oil-based paint or permanent marker is not allowed. *Pumpkins should not be disposed of in the regular garbage, or set out at the curb with leaves, as they pose a danger to cyclists, drivers, and leaf removal equipment. If you can’t attend the pumpkin composting event, put pumpkins out as organic material in a brown craft bag (with a blue LRS sticker) for collection.
