The Discover Boating Chicago Boat Show is in Rosemont this week through Sunday!
Running January 29–February 1, 2026 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, the Chicago Boat Show is best known for its massive lineup of boats—but families might be surprised by how much there is for kids to do, too.
We checked it out to see whether it’s actually worth bringing kids along (spoiler: yes), and here’s what families can expect.

Why Kids Will Love the Chicago Boat Show
This isn’t a “don’t touch anything” kind of event. Several areas are designed specifically to keep kids engaged, moving, and having fun.

Discover Boating Beach Club
The Discover Boating Beach Club is an interactive area that feels more like a mini indoor adventure zone than a traditional exhibit.

Kids and adults can explore:
- A virtual reality boating experience
- A surf simulator
- A golf simulator
There are also bags games set up along with Adirondack chairs so you can take a break, purchase a beverage, and enjoy the periodic appetizers they invite you to try free of charge.
PaddleFest Pool: Try Paddleboarding & Kayaking Indoors

At the PaddleFest Pool, kids can try stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking with instructors nearby. It’s a fun, low-pressure way to experience something new, especially for kids who are curious about water sports but haven’t tried them yet. My teenage daughter loved the SUP and my 3-year-old nephew tried kayaking for the first time. You need to sign a waiver before participating and take your shoes and socks off to avoid getting them wet.
Bumper Boats

The Bumper Boats are exactly what they sound like: spinning, bumping fun on the water. This was definitely a favorite! Kids 2-12 years old can have fun in their own boat for five minutes per ride.
Huck Finn Trout Pond

The Huck Finn Trout Pond lets kids 12 and under fish for real trout in a catch-and-release pond. It’s a simple, memorable experience and a nice change of pace from typical indoor attractions.
Why Parents Enjoy It Too
While kids are busy exploring, adults get plenty out of the show as well.
Hundreds of Boats to Walk Through
The show features hundreds of new boats, from pontoons and fishing boats to cruisers and yachts. Even if buying a boat isn’t on your radar, it’s fun to walk through different models and imagine summer days on the water. There are also all kinds of water accessories to check out, and even jet skis and boats that look like sports cars.
Show-Only Deals & New Gear
Many families come to:
- Compare boats side-by-side
- Check out marine tech and accessories
- Take advantage of show-only specials

Free Educational Seminars
There are free daily seminars covering boating basics, safety tips, and DIY advice. It’s great for anyone curious about getting started or feeling more confident on the water.
