Meet Saveta Dubak, local mom and the founder of the Charity Organization for Balkan Children!
Saveta, whose ancestry spans across four Western Balkan countries, was born and raised in Switzerland and moved to Chicago two years ago with her husband, 5-year-old daughter Tanasija, and 2-year-old son Vuk. They live in Countryside, and absolutely love the community there. La Grange, with its go-to spots Owl and Lark and Balkan Bakery, is her favorite destination.
And we’re excited to announce the launch of her first book, The Balkan Voyage, A Day at the Playground!
The Balkan Voyage is a delightful story of four friends enjoying playful adventures in Belgrade, Serbia. Amid swings, slides, and games, the tale is all about unity and friendship among Balkan children, reflecting the author’s mission to foster harmony in the region.
With political strife being rampant, Saveta wants children and parents to have a safe space where they can appreciate the harmony that exists between them, despite their differences. Her aim is to promote peace and unity through this series, and 100% of the profits for the sales of this book will be donated to the Charity for Balkan Children to further that mission.
The first book in the series is titled A Day at the Playground, set in Belgrade, Serbia and Saveta plans to continue the series with:
- A Day at the Beach, set in Sibenik, Croatia
- A Hike Adventure in Durmitor, set in Montenegro
- A Ski Day at Jahorina, set in Bosnia & Herzegovina
- A Picnic at Lake Ohrid, set in Macedonia
A Day at the Playground is now available in paperback and on Kindle!
