Second City is offering an improv show for kids this summer, running most Wednesdays at 11:30 am, and we were invited to check it out. Totally Ridiculous: An Improvised Show That’s Better Than Recess is a 50 minute, interactive show where kids have a lot of opportunities to participate. It’s tailored to ages 5-12 and we agree with those age recommendations. They did a great job making it appropriate for kids while still cracking us up.
My kids had never been to an improv show and they enjoyed all of the scenes, situations, and jokes being made on the spot. The actors asked for words, emotions, dance moves, and audience participation. All of the kids in the audience were loving it!
Tickets are general admission, $10 for kids and $12 for adults. They open the doors 45 minutes early so you can choose your seats when you get there, but the theater has six rows of seats, so there really isn’t a bad place to sit.

Where to Park
You could of course use Spot Hero, but we found a free space on the street so it was worth driving around a bit to find one.
How to Get to the Theater
Enter through the UP Comedy Club main doors on North Avenue or around the corner on Wells through the marked door, not The Second City MainStage doors. Head up the escalator and to the left. Look for the yellow handrail, go up those stairs and you’ll be there. There’s also an attendant at the desk on the first floor to direct you.

Make a Day Of It
We drove to the city early and went out to breakfast at Nookies beforehand, which was fun and a short walk down the street from the show. Don’t forget that the Green City Market is open on Wednesdays too. It closes at 1:00 pm, but you’ll have time to grab one of those gooey, delicious grilled cheese sandwiches. On a warm day, head over to North Avenue Beach for the afternoon!
