Do you find your child singing throughout their day or making up their own tunes? Or do you have a child who has trouble expressing herself or could use a confidence boost? Maybe you want your child to experience the community and team building sports have to offer, but athletics don’t interest him? Children’s Choir may be just what you are looking for!
Southwest Suburban Children’s Choir (SWSCC) is happy to announce open registration for the 2015-16 season. SWSCC is choral ensemble for students in grades one through six. It is their mission to foster creativity, artistic expression, musical excellence, responsibility, respect and cooperation through the learning and performance of choral music.
Children are born with an innate musical ability. Through encouragement and experience they can all bring out their inner musician. Choral singing is an excellent option for elementary school students interested in music for many reasons.
- Learn to associate the written music with sounds they create themselves, giving them a new written and verbal language
- Work together as a team, trying to collectively create their most beautiful performance
- Teaches children active listening, critical thinking and making quick decisions based on what they hear
- Builds confidence, discipline and improves memory
- Introduces children to customs and cultures outside of their own experience
- Teaches children to use their voices without strain or injury to give them a solid foundation so they can move on to more demanding singing styles, such as pop, Broadway or operatic, in a safe and protected way
While all of these these are wonderful reasons to be involved in a choir, the directors of SWSCC, Katheryn Vukson and Jessica Maffia, believe the most important is that singing gives the gift of joy through artistic expression. Singing makes people happy!
Because SWSCC is a noncompetitive ensemble, students can come in each week and simply enjoying singing together.
The ensemble meets once a week and holds a concert at the end of each 8-week session. All rehearsal and performances are held at Hinsdale South High School. No previous experience is necessary. There are no auditions, all are welcome.
