Frank Salerno is the founder of Salerno Law Group, P.C., a full service law firm concentrating on Estate Planning, Probate and Estate Administration, Elder Law, Business Formation, Corporate & Commercial Transactions, Income Tax Planning and Real Estate.
Frank was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and attended Fenwick High School, the University of Notre Dame and Boston College Law School. Prior to law school, Frank was employed as an accountant for the international accounting firm of Arthur Andersen where he was able to attain his Certified Public Accountant designation. He has been in the private practice of law for the past twenty years. Frank currently lives in Western Springs with his wife Lynda and their children, Evan, Elizabeth and Ethan.
The biggest misconception about estate planning is that estate planning is only for the wealthy. The estate planning concerns that most of us encounter have absolutely nothing to do with our net worth. As the parents of young children, our primary and main focus should be (1) naming a guardian to raise our minor children in the event of our untimely passing and (2) providing asset management until children are old enough to take control of assets.
In the event of our passing without proper planning, a judge in probate court will name an individual to raise our children and our children will take absolute control of the assets on their eighteenth birthday. Of course the biggest problems with this is that a judge may name a guardian who while having the greatest intentions that person might be the last person you would want to entrust your children with and while our children might be the greatest children in the world most will agree that 18 is too young for them to have control over assets.
These concerns and issues are resolved very easily as long as you do some planning.
As the father of three small children, Frank Salerno is here to help you “take control” and give you peace of mind that in the event of your passing, your children are raised by the appropriate person and that assets are safeguarded and will be properly used for your children’s health, education and care.
As the holidays approach and we spend time with our family and friends, most of us will be seeing the people that we would designate as guardian for our children. This is an excellent opportunity to discuss with them the role that they will play in your plan. You might think that this is an unpleasant topic for the holidays. I assure you that there will be nothing unpleasant in seeing their response that they are “honored” that you have chosen them and how comfortable you will be in knowing that your children will be taken care of.
A CPA as well as an Attorney, Frank Salerno is prepared to help his clients with every aspect of their financial future and the preservation of their assets.
Salerno’s desire to help individuals and families started at an early age working weekends and summers in his family’s funeral home business.
“I always say to people, ‘I grew up at the funeral home’ — as crazy as that sounds — because we were there all the time. That’s what was expected.”
His father, Joseph Salerno, is the owner of the Salerno’s Rosedale Chapels in Roselle and Salerno’s Galewood Chapels in Chicago. During those weekends and summers, Frank saw his uncles, grandfather and father help others during very a difficult time in their life and knew that he wanted to help others as well. Frank’s intent is to help people just as his family did at the funeral home.
“I hear it now, ‘Your father was so good to me.’ It makes me very proud and I will continue to work hard for my clients, so that one day people will say to my sons and daughter
‘Your father was so good to me.’”
