2018 Races and Fun Runs in the Western Suburbs

The spring and summer months bring an incredible round-up of races and fun runs locally that are lots of fun for the whole family! While some kids are ready for a full-blown 5k, others might like to start with a short and sweet fun run: the perfect way to introduce younger kids to longer races. Either way, they’re sure to enjoy these family friendly events. Many end with a party with live music, food and games too! Get out and exercise with your kiddos at one of these awesome events coming up soon.

St. John’s Beat The Eagle 5K Run/Walk & 1 Mile Fun Run on Friday, April 6 in Lombard to benefit St. Johns School.

Foodie 5K  on Saturday, April 7 at Cantigny Park in Wheaton. (Also being held May 12 in Libertyville and September 15 in Romeoville.) Benefits the Northern Illinois Food Bank.

Shake It Off 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 7 at Bolingbrook High School to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Mustang Trot 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 8 in Downers Grove to benefit Lungevity.

Good Life Race on Sunday, April 8 at Oak Park River Forest High School to benefit the Collaboration for Early Childhood and the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry.

Young Hearts for Life 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 8 at Benedictine University in Lisle to benefit Young Hearts for Life.

Fun Run in Color on Saturday, April 14 at Memorial Park in Wheaton features a wave start, four color stations, and an after party with a final color toss.

Tower Trot 5K, 10K, Double, and Fun Run on Saturday, May 26 in Western Springs. Fundraising for Healing Hearts for Ashley will be held in conjunction with the race.

Cosley Zoo Run for the Animals 5K and 10K (plus half-mile kids’ run) on Saturday, June 2 in downtown Wheaton to benefit funds for Cosley Zoo animals, exhibit development projects, public programs, and conservation projects.

G.L.O.W. 5K Run on Saturday, June 2 in Naperville to benefit the Jeanine Nicarico Memorial Fund for Literacy.

Burr Ridge Run the Ridge 5k and 1K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 2 in Burr Ridge to benefit the ProActive Kids Foundation.

Elmhurst Running Club 4 on the 4th  4-mile run on Wednesday, July 4 in downtown Elmhurst to benefit the Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation.

The Freedom Four™ 4-Mile Run on Wednesday, July 4 at Lake Ellyn Park in Glen Ellyn to benefit the Glen Ellyn Park District’s scholarship funds.

Riverside Independence Day 5K on Wednesday, July 4 in Riverside.

The Original Waterfall Glen Xtreme 10 on Saturday, July 14 at the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve in Darien to benefit Big Rig Books.

Hemingway 8K Running of the Bulls and kids’ fun run event on Saturday, July 21 in Oak Park to benefit the Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park and the Oak Park River Forest Food Pantry.

Run for Hunger 5K Run/Walk and 1/2 Mile Kids Fun Run on Sunday, July 22 in Elmhurst to benefit the
Elmhurst/Yorkfield Food Pantry, Disciples Food Pantry, Hand and Hand Food Pantry and Community Table.

August 2018 Races and Fun Runs

HAE IN-MOTION 5K on Saturday, August 4 at Danada Forest Preserve in Wheaton to benefit the HAE Scholarship Program, Compassion Fund and Research.

The 2K for Kids Fun Run on Saturday, August 4 in Glen Ellyn. Kids will race a 1.25-mile course while competing in fun and age-appropriate challenges.  Open to ages 4-10, each participant of this timed race will receive a t-shirt, bib, and post-race snacks. Plus, awards will be given to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place runners in each age division and gender group!  Presented by the Glen Ellyn Park District, the 2K for Kids Fun Run is just $17 for residents and $25 for non-residents. Don’t miss out – the deadline to register is Friday, July 20. Learn more and register at www.gepark.org.

Stan’s Donut 5K Run, Walk and Kids Dash on Saturday, August 11 on Montrose Harbor in Chicago to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
