Kid-Friendly Train Stops on the Southwest Service Metra Line

Spring is in full bloom, and there’s no better way to enjoy the sights and sounds of the southwest suburbs than by traveling via train. Round up the kids for a leisurely ride on the Southwest Service Metra line and explore all that your neighboring towns have to offer. On weekdays, kids ages 7–11 save half on one-way fares, and up to three kids under 7 ride free with a paying adult. On weekends and certain holidays, kids 11 and under ride free with a paying adult! (The $10 Weekend Pass includes unlimited rides Friday and Saturday and counts as the adult fare.) So not only is Metra the most fun way for families to explore the southwest suburbs, but it’s also quite economical.

Be sure to check current train schedules for departure information (click the “Downloadable printable schedule” link), and click here for the SWS line map. Also, remember that if the ticket booth at the station where you board is open, you will have to pay a fee to buy your ticket on the train (or download the Ventra app and pay that way). If it’s closed (as they often are on weekends), you can buy your ticket on the train with no fee.
