Cool Ways to Celebrate Graduation for the Class of 2020

Yard Signs/Balloon Displays

Many area schools have kindly delivered yard signs to honor their graduating class. We love seeing these proudly displayed all over town! You could also get crafty and create your own. If you’re not the crafty type, there are many local companies offering yard sign/balloon decoration services. Here are a few in the western suburbs:

Photo Wreath or Memory Boards

When you think back to your graduate’s first days of school and all their accomplishments along the way, it’s hard not to get nostalgic! What better way to honor your grad than with a custom collage of photos showcasing their growth? Graduation Drive-By Parades

At this point in our sheltering at home, drive-by parades to celebrate special occasions have become quite common. What a great way for graduates to receive well wishes from friends and loved ones from afar. A few car decorations coupled with cheering and smiles can go a long way in celebrating our 2020 grads! Here are some adorable invites/tags for such an event:

Of course, be sure to do the parade safely. Resist the urge to get up close and personal. Wear a mask and wash your hands (or sanitize) between each visitor if you’re handing out favors or being handed cards. Or just wave and smile!

Graduation Sweets and Treats

Sweets and treats made especially for graduates are a must! Make your grad’s favorite cake/cookies/ice cream to commemorate his/her achievements. Not much of a baker? Check out your local bakery’s options or order online. Many of our nearby businesses need our support more than ever these days!

Virtual Celebrations and Wishes

Graduation parties as we know it may not be in the cards for 2020, but Zoom or Google Meet calls are an easy way to get family members together! You could surprise your grad with a video call of this kind, or organize one with his/her close friends. In addition, asking friends/family to deliver heartfelt messages and wishes via video can always make for beautiful memories.

Although many of us are experiencing bittersweet emotions during such a significant time in our children’s lives, there’s hope to make these moments touching and memorable! Spend some time thinking about what matters most, and your grad will surely be feeling all the love during this momentous season.
