The Stories in Collage exhibit at the Woodridge Public Library (February 2–27) will feature original collages from My Love for You Is Like a Garden, along with upcoming books My Love for You Is Like the Night Sky and My Lucky Leaf, plus several works inspired by her travels.
An artist reception will be held on Saturday, February 8, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., with activities
for kids and refreshments.
Laura’s latest book, My Love for You Is Like a Garden, was named a Kirkus Reviews Best Books of 2023, receiving a starred review and numerous awards. She is also the author of Ice Cream with Grandpa: A Loving Story for Kids About Alzheimer’s & Dementia, which won a Northern Lights Book Award, and Little Squiggle’s Lake Adventure, co-authored with her son.
The exhibit will also highlight the personal story behind many of Laura’s collages, including those for My Love for You Is Like a Garden. She began these works on June 20, 2021, unaware that a tornado would devastate her community that night, sending a tree through her roof and causing severe damage. As a result, Laura and her family were deeply moved by the kindness of those who brought plants, flowers, and trees to help replant their garden. Today, it stands as a symbol of resilience and generosity.
