We recently had the pleasure of going to Entrée Kitchen in Carol Stream for meal prep with our kids and had a wonderful time! We found the entire process to be easy from their online ordering, meal assembly, and cooking the dinner at home. Entrée Kitchen does all the shopping, chopping, and cleanup so you can have delicious dinners in your freezer or refrigerator ready to cook at home! Continue reading to see how the entire process goes so you will be ready to jump in and have some great meals ready to go!

Entrée Kitchen Menu
All of the entrées they offer serve six people and may be split into two 3-serving portions for no additional cost. Organic and all-natural meat upgrades are available for designated entrées.
The monthly menu is easy to read with descriptions, nutritional facts, cooking instructions, available upgrades (such as organic and all-natural meat options), and pairing suggestions. They even give ratings to each item with helpful info, such as gluten free, customer favorite, low sodium, low fat, low carb, and more.
If you have allergy concerns, please check out the nutritional information and recipe ingredients, which can be found on their website. Also, if you would prefer to leave out certain ingredients you are more than welcome to!
You can spend an hour or so and walk out with up to a month’s worth of meals for about $4 per serving. Compare that to online services, such as Blue Apron or Hello Fresh, which are $10 per serving!
The sign-up process has a simple flow that allows you to customize your order. First, sign up for an online account on the Entrée Kitchen website. Then head over to the session calendar to choose a time slot that works for you! Select the number of meals you would like to assemble from a dropdown menu – 6, 8, or 12 entrées. (If you would like to make less than that, you may call (630) 668-4450 to request your entrées.) Next, choose if you would like to split your meals. You will then be taken to their monthly menu of entrées and sides so you can specify how many of each you would like to make, then grab ‘n go (optional), and breakfast foods and desserts (also optional). Pay for your order and you’re all set!
Meal Prep at Entrée Kitchen
We loved the space at Entrée Kitchen! The meal prep area is set up in a circle, with plenty of space to move around and comfortably fit four people around each station. It has an open feel with high ceilings and the light streams into the large front windows. There is a nice seating area in front, two hand washing stations with step stools available, and clearly labeled stations with instructions. We found the entire experience to be relaxing and enjoyable!
“Cook” with the Kids
This was our first time assembling meals with our kids and it was fun! Our seven year old daughter took the lead reading the easy-to-follow directions and our son took action measuring out the ingredients. Younger kids are more than capable of doing the meal prep too. We saw another family there with a 4-5 year old son that was really into it. Kids can use one of the readily available step stools to get a better view.
The stations were very clean and well organized. Each ingredient container was prepared and had the appropriate measuring spoons or cups in it. It was seriously so easy and looked delicious! You can assemble the meals at your own pace and in any order that you choose.
On “Cook” with the Kids Day at Entrée Kitchen, the kids are invited to decorate cupcakes as well, which was a fun addition to the experience. They also have small bites and coffee to enjoy while you are there.
When we got back in the car, the kids immediately started talking about how enjoyable it was. My daughter commented that she felt really welcomed in the space. It was apparent that they felt a sense of responsibility to make the dinner. So cool!

Cooking the Meal At Home
We made pork loin with apple kraut and potatoes, so we ended up with two bags- one with the marinating pork, and one with a mixture of peeled apple slices, potatoes, kraut, and seasonings. I literally just poured the contents of the bags into a roasting pan and put it in the oven! It doesn’t get any easier than that.
The directions said to cook it for 40-45 minutes in a 375 degree oven. This is the only part I wish was framed up a little differently because the pork wasn’t done after 45 minutes. I ended up cooking the dish an additional 20 minutes.
The dish was very flavorful! Everything in the photo below was included, except the green beans. We felt it was very true to six servings and have some leftovers to eat for lunch tomorrow. There are a wide variety of entrée options to suit many different tastes, such as chicken sliders and sloppy joes as well.
