Looking for a sweet, educational outing with your kids? Try a chocolate factory tour! We had fun visiting the Long Grove Confectionery and learning about how their fine chocolates are made.
The tour is about an hour in length and begins with a video explaining how cacao beans are harvested in areas such as West Africa/Peru, before they are shipped to the factory for chocolate production in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. Next, we are taken behind-the-scenes to witness how the chocolatiers melt and temper the chocolate… adding butter, cream and nuts to create all their delicious treats.
Finally, we are given a view of how all the confections are packaged with care. Thankfully, each guest is offered a FREE chocolate treat at the end of the tour! If one piece wasn’t enough, there is a whole outlet store filled with the confectionery’s tasty creations available for purchase at a discount. My kids and I are definitely chocolate lovers making learning all the details of the process a lot of fun.
